I really like the clean lines and clinical meticulousness in your Leica Park set, Werner.

Zhangyue, lovely photos of your kids and dramatic angles and weather conditions.

Just spent a bunch of time going back through the thread since I last posted. Lots of great images, as always! Was on the road over Thanksgiving without much time to go online. Catching up now...

Charlie - interesting bit of ski history in that guestbook many pages back. I'm not a hardcore skier, so had to look up those names. While in Austria, did you ever make it over to the Zillertal area? I've been there a number of times with friends for skiing.

Shu... what happened to one lens only? Love your work with the 35 Cron ASPH... Gary's put it to great use with his travel/landscape images, but I haven't seen a lot from it at near MFD and like what I see in your images. The somewhat edgier blur circles are music to my eyes.

Continuing on with my NYC images from August... Times Square. Just walked through, didn't spend much time, but still some results that I like.

Poor police woman was practically invisible to numerous pedestrians crossing against her commands...

M240 and 28 Cron.

Someone asked about also posting aperture value... I think most or all above were around f/5.6 and zone focused/guesstimated.

I'd like to ask M9 users: How often do you guys send your camera in for rangefinder adjustment?

Thanks!

I think very few M9s have ever been in for RF adjustment. Of course I do read of folks sending one in, but usually it's the lens. I've banged the H out of mine, it's still perfect. The M240, or so I read, is more tender, having to do with the added EVF. But this would still be unusual.

When there is some other issue, often Leica will check the RF, as a matter of course.

Basically if all your glass is suddenly "out" well, send body to DAG.

All RF cameras need eventually a CLA. But I agree with Charlie that it isn't that often. I've been shooting RF for 4 years and have not needed any RF adjustment so far with my M240, M9, M6 and 3 Zeiss Ikon bodies.

I realize that some guys tend to get more RF problems than others. This can be due to a multitude of small habits, like banging the camera loudly on the table every time you put it down, or hitting the RF arm every time you change lenses. I try to use common sense with my cameras, they are fine mechanical pieces, so while my M is out with me everyday, I am more careful not to bump the camera or the RF arm especially that it doesn't take more time to do that.

By the way, Charlie, the M240 has a stronger more robust RF mechanism that is also more precise than the M9.

I'm just trying to figure out what that one lens is I actually just posted the 35 Cron for sale. I bought Gary's 50 Cron a few weeks ago and much prefer the gentler rendering of the 50 Cron to the 35 Cron ASPH. the 35 Cron is outstanding, but it has an edginess to it in high contrast scenes that i find unsettling. I wonder how the v4 renders in comparison...

Fantastic shots on NY, you can feel the energy through your photos.

This is the best thread on FM ... amazing photos from everyone and just great support as well.

If you travel, there is more chance of bumping the RF calibration off. My experience is that the M9's would go in twice a year to be CLA'd. The M9 is excellent, in that it is simple and the RF calibrations can be done locally and within a few days. There are usually two types of calibration errors. One is a bump, however slight it may be, and the other is drift. It is a mechanical device, and it really it is not an issue Just find a local Leica service center that can have your calibrations for you M9 and lenses on file, so then in future you just either send the lens or body.

Just watch a Steve Huff review video and that is what he does - bangs them down on table tops, scrapes them around while demonstrating features - makes me cringe! This is for all his equipment not just Leica reviews. He has also complained that Leica's RFs drift, but seeing his treatment of them (an inadvertently mentioning how many he has dropped) I feel it is the rough handling which is at fault. Which is also why I would never buy any of his gear that he occasionally sells, no matter how 'mint' he claims it is!

Back on topic.. M-E, Summicron Asph 35
