Ok, by popular demand, here's some color photos of my guitars...

Every Guitar pictured here is made in USA!!! Leather straps at top with designs are made in Canada. I'm not certain about my acoustic strap. I'd have to check it.

Very nice Doug! Could you please let me know the exact address where these guitars reside?

haha Gary. I'll put in you touch with our local police dept, they know where they are.

Oh, FYI, I shot the above with Alien Bee Einstein studio light with a 5 foot octagon soft box with grid, triggered by the Alien Bee's Nashville triggers and receivers. Since we don't see a lot of Leica flash work, I thought that was relevent... It does a pretty darn nice job with studio lighting huh, huh?

Rather much like I did in photography, I got a little carried away... you think? Obviously, there are amps too, ha.

Very nice set Gary. Love the 1st shot. The M8 is still the king of b/w. I also like no. 3 especially the composition.

This is what pulls me to Leica. Can I get this from any other system, may be but have rarely seen it with sony or canon I have. But I get this many times from M8U and love it. I have decided to send back the m240 and purchase another one. I know if I didn't get it, I will keep looking for this look.

Maybe you should try M9 this time Find one with a fresh sensor. They come up often. Less money, more "look".......uhoh runs for cover

Seriously though, I'm getting the idea the M9 is a bit better at holding the calibration and having it fixed if need be. These guys have convinced me the 240 can really deliver a fantastic look, but I'm suspecting it comes with a bit more care.

Wonderful what sleep can do. It's happened to all of us, we can't wait for the new lens, it finally shows with a hazy hangover. In your case it's especially traumatic because this is a big purchase.

My advice for next time: don't touch the firmware till you own the camera for keeps. It should work well exactly as you receive it. If not, as you did, pack it up and return.

Here's how I want to look at 80:

A member of royalty in Lahore, at around 11 years he saw half his family killed in front of him because the huge ransom was only enough to free the other half, in the great partition. His father was miffed by his dyslexia so at 15 he was sent off to "the states" by himself. Took him 2 week to realize Aden, which is as far as his ticket went, was not the states. But in the end he made it by himself and earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Indiana U.

80 may be a stretch for my longtime tenants :

and for me, for that matter

But I love the shutter on m240. Its like it is done even before I am done thinking..."ok got the focus click it". Its not like that on M8U and clearly not at all on a7. Does it make a difference to the picture I don't know but it feels like I got it right that moment.

I will talk to popflash tomorrow and ask them if this is something odd that this mint unit is not what it should have been or the quality control is not that stringent on these units. If the later I will take time to think otherwise I think I will order 240 again. M9 does not offer so much more then my m8U that has served me quite well for last 4 years.

Well, the Leica M is such a unique design that has its weaknesses but there is really no other option, so we have no choice but to put up with the quirks.

I have had a problem with the M9, the flaking sensor coatings, that was fixed by Leica for free. I have had a problem with the M(240), the baseplate was slightly loose, and also was fixed for free. I have not had any RF calibration problem with a new camera, and since I pamper my cameras against shocks, the RF so far always remained spot on.

Half of my ZM lenses came with less than optimal collimation, but that was also quickly remedied, and free as expected. I read on the forums that Leica and Voigtlander lenses also come with similar issues. That is the price to pay to shoot RF, but once everything works well, it is by far the most enjoyable and satisfying photo experience ever. It's well worth it.

Yep - just stick with it. They are quirky cameras indeed but well worth it. Your decision to stick with the M240 over the M9 was a good one. Mind you, if I could afford it I would own all of them!

Guys, this Leica stuff is really crap, you should send all yours to me for proper disposal. I will make sure it gets recycled properly. Especially 1.1 and 1.X Noct lenses, and 75 luxes, and M9s. These are in proper need of immediate disposal if you own them...

Thanks Gary, it helps to hear that I am not thinking wrong way. Like uhoh7 said yesterday, it is used by a lot and I need to think its just that unit and thus the decision to buy m240 over m9 earlier still holds.

Guys, could you educate me on this calibration issue. I have read about this need for the calibration thing but don't quite understand it. Does it mean I have to ship all my lens and camera to NJ leica. If it gets calibrated for one lens, does it mean others may get little off and then those will need it too.
