Mardel,

Yes, the V2 diffuser and black/silver front spill kill fabrics will fit PLM V1. The new diffusers wrap around the face of the PLM and have an adjustable elastic drawstring around the back perimeter to adjust the fit. They also have a "shroud" with drawstring to snug it up to the light and eliminate any leakage.

The 51" diffuser will fit the V1 42" PLM by wrapping further around the face.

The V2 black outer cover probably won't fit V1 properly because the shape is somewhat different.

PLM components are coming in daily/weekly. Please note pictures of V2 are not up on our website yet . . . should be there in a few days. Our entire staff is so busy that it is impossible to get everything done in the timeframe we would like, so we are concentrating on the highest priorities first.

Here is one of your post about using PW with the Einstein. Now, given that it is a known issue that everyone is having major problems and this will be yet another issue everyone will have to send the product to get fixed. One just has to ask why you didn't test the radio triggering functionality as well?

Since I still am not having problems triggering either of the two Einstein v1 units I've used with My PocketWizard MultiMAX units , how can I possibly report a problem I still haven't seen? I hang the MultiMAX transceiver about 10" - 12" below the Einstein and connect through a miniphone to miniphone cable.

Ok Ellis, I will ask again....
Could you please let me in on the issues that you brought up in the review that are being addressed in the Einstein V2?

The two problems I had with the Einstein were as follows;

1) The reflector and modifier attachment mechanism jammed i the first Einstein I received. (unit number #0007) the second Einstein didn't have this problem and PCB, inc sent me a replacement mechanism which I replaced myself (reason for me opening up the head in the first place to look at it's guts.)

2) I also reported that I wish the fan was quieter -- but that was quieter than other fan cooled heads I've worked with over the past 26 years (those noisy brands include Speedotron Blackline, Balcar, Norman LH2400 with auxiliary fan, & the PCB Zeus. The quietest heads I've worked with are the Profoto heads for the Pro 5, 6, & & 7 and Broncolor Pulso. )

3) I also reported that To see how the Einstein hold up under heavy usage, I ran two tests on several consecutive days, triggering the unit once every 5 seconds at full power with a Pocketwizard MultiMAX transceiver in intervalometer mode. The first test ran for 1,200 cycles, thesecond 1,800 cycles. Except an occasional 30-second break when the Einstein’s thermal protection circuitry kicked in, there were no problems. If you find the thermal
protection feature too aggressive or too conservative, it’s also user programmable.

Those are the problems I ran into and I reported on them. My conclusion was a s follows:

If you like the feel and look of Profoto equipment (and Profoto’s excellent light
modifier attachment system), you might not be as happy with the Einstein. But with the
ever-expanding lineup of Paul C. Buff-made light modifiers as well as those from other
companies like Chimera and Balcar, you just aren’t going to find this much control over
lighting—the principle photographic element —for a price anywhere near the Einstein’s. I
look forward to exploring its features more fully in the coming months.

My review was written in mid May 2010. I stand by that conclusion. Since acquiring the Einsteins I've used them on several corporate, editorial, and stock shoots, and I'm still a happy user. If they didn't work, or worked as badly as you continually say they do -- even thug hby your own admission you've never touched one, much less used one, I wouldn't still be using them as I've got other lights, Dynalites primarily, but also a Zeus system, and also have easy access to Broncolor, Elinchrom, Hensel, Speedotron Blackline, & Profoto moonlights and pack and head systems.

I'm also not sure why anybody who doesn't already have a collection of standard Elinchrom softboxes needs your adapter i the first place as equally good if not better softboxes are available from both Plume, ltd and Chimera.

I'm a bit surprised at how this thread has gotten to this point. Kacey, I'm a bit surprised, I've followed your posts on this and other forums and in most cases I've seen that you have maintained a non-bias viewpoint in regards to your own products while not going out of your way to knock a competitive product or viewpoint. You can imagine my surprise to see that your posts in this thread go completely against what I've come to expect. While I think everyone should voice their opinions as they see fit, it seems to me that your tone from the very beginning has been vengeful and combative, for reasons that still do not seem clear. I kept waiting for the moment when this attitude would switch to something more positive and yet it seemed to continue to spiral downward to the point of questioning others on this board about the legitimacy of printed reviews based on what you felt they should have found. By your rules then every review of Toyota cars is worthless based on the fact that they didn't find the sticking accelerator issue during their review. I'm not sure what is at play here, but it seems ugly and beneath what I've come to expect from this board.

I don't think I ever stated many features do not work well or said they work badly like you say in your comment above. I will say I don't think that marketing a flash that has been hyped revolutionary.... That can't even perform as a hair light without the possibility of damage to the unit is concerning to me as someone that uses PCB products. Especially, since I can fill this thread with quotes where PCB has over and over hyped the cooling and improved modifier attachment cam design of his product.

I might even purchase some of the V3 versions of the Einstein, but I'm not going be a beta tester like I was for the Vagabond 2.

I'm also not sure why anybody who doesn't already have a collection of standard Elinchrom softboxes needs your adapter i the first place as equally good if not better softboxes are available from both Plume, ltd and Chimera.

I think many are photographers that are already invested in Elinchrom or want and Quadra and Einstein with one set of there modifiers. Why didn't you list PCB soft boxes as equally as good along with Plume, Chimera... I will add Larson.

I will point out Paul started this with his unsolicited review of my product which he has never used and only just saw in a web image.
I've been called a Flea, a fool, poor at engineering.
I've been ganged up on from the guy that wrote the review for paul that was published in a magazine that by Paul's own admission gives him prestigious Hot One Awards without ever even touching the product. When they inform the readers the judging in based on overall quality, innovation, design, performance, and value for the price. Sure I will ask some questions from them to elaborate on their comments

Maybe if you worked hard at building a reputation and someone as influential as Paul shot your hard work down on the WWW without a blink, you would understand... Yea, glass houses.... I dont think there is any doubt Paul lives in one.

While I haven't used an Einstein as a hair light, I used one a pretty fair amount as a top light over a set for still life and product photography . I haven't noticed any problems -- but then again in those situations I've got usually got the light either bare with a reflector (with a large diffusion scrim between the light and the set) , with a loop of diffusion material taped to the reflector with plenty of airflow, or in medium Chimera or Plume Wafer 100 and not a tightly enclosed modifier. While the Einstein CyberCommander system does make it more feasible to work where the the head is mounted inane awkward to get at directly position over the top of a set, in general I don't like the idea of a moonlight, no matter what the make, perched out on the on the end of a boom a long way from the pivot point -- it just makes for a lot of weight that has to be counter balanced and the stand more heavily weighted with ballast.

Why didn't you list PCB soft boxes as equally as good along with Plume, Chimera... I will add Larson.

As I've never used PCB (or Larson softboxes) why would I think I have any any sane reason to comment on the quality of a product I've never worked with?

On second thought I have worked with a PCB softbox -- the Moonunits for the PCBuff, inc. ZRM and ABR800 ring lights. The ZRM is a great option when you have to put a large well diffused light overhead but have only average height ceilings to work with it is very, very shallow.

I've been ganged up on from the guy that wrote the review for paul

Ganged up on? One person is a gang?

And with that last comment you've crossed a very, very real line. To be very emphatic

I in no way shape or form "wrote a review for Paul" (meaning Pau C. Buff.) I was not directed by him, I am not nor have I ever been employed in a staff or freelance position by him or the companies he owns, nor have I ever solicited or accepted gifts from Mr. Buff or his companies, or been compensated in any way for reviewing equipment made or sold by his company. My own editor doesn't tell me what to write and I have no connection with the ad sales side of Professional Photographer.

I dont know you from Adam.... I said based how the magazine issues Awards which are highest form of a review to Paul. I did not mind asking you questions to elaborate on your responses to me.

I did not know the Hot One Award was a advertisement.... Maybe you should question the publication you are writing for then. How about you read this thread that (I can't believe Paul has not deleted) and post back in bold letters how you feel about the practice and if you are going to keep writing and being affiliated with it.
Hot One Link

Maybe you can also comment on Paul's combative comments in this thread that he closed because no one was agreeing with him or this practice.

Never said it was and I don't believe it is. In the space of two days however I've gone from being someone who thought you seemed like a nice guy to having a very different opinion of you.

Kacey, Ellis...no offence to both of you but please stop this. Absolutely nothing is being gained at this point other then everyone defending their egos.

It is obvious Kacey is going to butt heads with you Ellis and you are just fueling the fire by trying to defend yourself. I have nothing against either of you and actually have a lot of respect for one of you, but these threads ruin this place.

You are welcome to your opinion and I can except that. I'm sure under other circumstances it would be much different. In all fairness, you never answered the question here about how you feel about the way PCB Inc gets their Hot One Awards from the magazine you write for.

Your right Kirk....

I'm going to calm down....take off.... dye my hair bright red..... Smoke a pack of cig's and invent some photography products. I'll come back later to read Ellis's response to the question I keep asking him.

WoW.... Now i'm libeling you for asking you to post your opinion on how you feel about the magazine you write for issuing PCB Inc Hot One Awards without ever touching or seeing the product first hand?

To be clear I have no doubt at all that YOU actually did have the product you reviewed. I believe for a Hot One 18 different photographers are supposed to review the product first hand then issue the Award based on their findings.

I figured you would give you opinion right away and straight up when I asked you about their practice of doing this for Paul.
Still hoping you do.

I popped in here about 45 minutes ago because Ellis was the last to respond, and I enjoy reading his informative posts. Actually, I pick his brain quite often. He speaks objectively from experience, free of sentiment and allegiance.

Stop wasting his time.
