First 'official' word on the V2 PLM's was just posted to AB's web site.
Paul - I've got Elinchrom Ranger and Quadra heads, if you need a beta tester for the V2 PLMs, let me know!!!
07/03/10: We apologize for the continued delay in the availability of the Parabolic Light Modifiers. With the improvements made to the design of the system, there have been unexpected delays from our new fabric vendor. We regret that this has prolonged the backorder status and are continuing to work diligently to have the product ready as soon as possible. We have very strict quality control standards and are unwilling to ship any product that does not meet Paul C. Buff’s precise design.
PLM version 2 will be available in 51-inch, 64-inch and 86-inch sizes, still available in both white and silver. The version 2 will have a smaller umbrella shaft (7mm) to fit flash units by other manufacturers having smaller diameter umbrella mounts. Each PLMv.2 will also include a speedring cage assembly that allows exact centering of the umbrella on all Paul C. Buff, Inc. flash units or Elinchrom flash units.
As we have more information, we will continue to update this site as to when the products will be made available. We also hope to update this page soon with images and added description of the improved PLMv.2 design.
I wonder why they don't already have images or a final description of the product. If these things are already in production, one would expect to see a finished product, even if the manufacturer is having trouble producing them in mass volume.
Still waiting patiently for these though...64" and 86" look to be in my future.

You want it fast or do you want it right "Specifications" is a key word here. If something should change there will be complaints that the product doesn't match the images posted. What is more useful? I'm sure they're not sitting on their arses to hatch eggs.

The date of first public disclosure (such as photos and working details) starts the clock for obtaining patents. Also, we want the information we publish to be accurate and representative of the product that actually ships. We've been ripped of once already on V1.
I'm wondering whether this will give us some 42" ones for sale 2nd hand. Bit of superglue on the diffuser panel and I'll have a perfect wedding off camera light to make the most of speedlights with soft directional light, small and easy enough to use on location fast. That superglue might be necessary though..

Awesome, thanks for the feedback Paul. I'm really looking forward to these being released. I'll be the first in line to purchase the 86" version.

as soon as I get my V2s my silver 65 is up for sale. The 7mm shaft will make my life much easier. I doubt many people will be in the same boat. Btw, duct tape works wonders for holding the diffusers on.
Knowing that at least some of the many strobes out there use 7mm shafts...
Why is there still such an overbundance of thicker shafts ?
Its suprisingly hard to find in local stores in a pinch, i've had better luck just cutting off the shafts and sticking in 7mm iron shafts found much more easily.
I'm very happy when i heard the news about the v2s, and i hope to see this as a continuing trend, because without this change i was not considering them.

I'm still waiting for a replacement to my non-fitting Ver1 fabric ones. The line is behind me. :P
I love my PLM64, just wish the diffuser fabric fit right... I bought my PLM after I saw Jeremy's drummer / drum kit photo examples and discussion early on, so I guess that puts me behind him somewhere in the line...
Still waiting on my diffusion fabric for my 64" PLM. I don't think I will order anything else until the first thing I ordered comes in. Does anyone know of an update for that? It's sat in my bag for 3 months.

Because the way "standard umbrellas" are made, 7mm is not strong enough and will bend or break. Many of these lights don't even have a clamping screw to keep larger umbrella in position.
