Adorama has the 35-70/2.8 in D condition for 9999.99. So if you have the inkling and the 10k, let the rest of us know how it shoots.

The 35-70/2.8 is apparently an awesome lens with incredible rendering, but I have never tried it. It was always expensive, but $10k sounds like someone is trying to cash in too much.

I don't think I'd pay the asking prices for the E60 Summilux 50 but it is definitely an optic I could covet.
In that, the Summicron R 50 I use is 9/10 and from what I've seen the E60 is 9.5/10. It looks like it's capable of nearly anything.

I used to own a 50/2 late model and liked it very much. However, the 50E60 is really in another class, not just 1/2 point higher on a scale to 10. I would say that the Leica 50/2 is 7/10 or 7.5/10, and the E60 is 9.5/10. Note that my scale only has Zeiss and Leica scoring that high. A typical or even some special Canon lenses would for me be around 5

Sadly, E60 is a lens which I only had brief access to The 35 Lux is mine though, and I will post more as I find my muse again. This will likely happen as soon as everything starts getting a bit more green.

is there any reason why the rom lenses are holding such value when the R system is no longer made?

The R system goes back in to the 60s, and the ROM models were all newer by a fair amount. And then, there won't ever be anymore -- the available supply is it.

I think some later film bodies require the newer lenses, ROM or otherwise.

The main difference between the Lux 50/1.4 E60 RII and the Cron 50/2 RII:
Summarized from E.Puts reviews.

1- The Lux at 1.4 gives a very close performance to the Cron at 2
2- The Lux at 2 outperforms the Cron at 2
3- The Lux at 2.8 equals the Cron at 5.6
4- The Lux is the top lens in all other brands in its focal length

I will put his statements to test as soon as I can find the time to do some somparison shots.

ROM doesn't indicate a newer lens because the ROM contacts can be added to most R lenses regardless of age. R lenses that require additional mirror box clearance require a body made after 1974 (Leicaflex SL2 or newer), and ROM lenses require a body made after 1976 (R3 or newer; exception: ROM lenses that don't require extra mirror box clearance may be used on the 1968-1972 Leicaflex SL with minor modification).

Any R3 or newer body can use any R lens with full function as long as the lens has been updated with the 3rd metering cam. Pre-1968 lenses with the single metering cam for the original Leicaflex might be uneconomical to update but they can usually be used with stop-down metering.

This is officially my new best friend.

I don't know that it is my best lens, but it is certainly a very pleasant surprise. Great details and color -- plus it's good wide open. It is a rather slow zoom, but the focal range is very useful, being almost the same as my most-used lens, the Canon 24-70/2.8L (mostly used for event-type photos). This lens is far better than the R 28/2.8 version 1 that I owned for a short time a few months ago.

I'm glad all the hard work paid off, removing metal from the rear of the lens to clear the mirror on my Canon bodies. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1103146/1#10533497

Here are a few from a rare cloudy day in Southern California. Nice sun, with soft bounce light -- perfect for this lens! Great details in the branches and leaves of trees. Great rendition on skin tones. Samuli -- don't tell me I have to look for a 80-200 now!

Leica R 28-70/3.5-4.5 shot on 5D2 @ ISO 200 and 400.

Very nice landscape travel zoom lens. Mechanical cutting is not very complicated. And what about flares and contrast? You have not tested with the sun in the frame?
