Tripod Mounted@ F11. Zone focus with screen confirmation, if I remember correctly. I was trying out the R lens to see if it worked.
I have DAG serviced my Leica R zoom lens (35-70/4) where he adjusted the zooming mechanism and the lens works well on my Sony A7r and Leica SL bodies. His contact info is here: https://www.dagcamera.com/contact.html. The quality of his work has been excellent for as long as I know him (for over 15 years), and his price is very fair, IMHO.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the info.
Ten , twelve years ago I used DAG's excellent services.
Although I still have many Leica lenses, I lost interest in Leica cameras.
Thanks again for your help.
I will send DAG an email and find out.

Your Leica Vario-Elmarit-R 28-90mm/F2.8-4.5 E67 ASPH Lens is one of best zoom lenses ever made even in today's standard. Checking and adjusting the zoom mechanism will certainly help focus accuracy.
I always feel that I am attached to Leica R lenses for their very balanced and consistent performance. Here is an older image taken with Elmarit-R 28/2.8 E55/V2 with Sony A7r/3.
I recommend DAG as well. Make sure that you include the letter that he asks for, I believe that is how he keeps track of lenses. His workmanship is quite good.
Check your adapter to the Sony as well, all but the best adapters are usually out. The 28-90 is a precise lens, with a floating element focusing system. Rayqual are the most accurate FYI
I checked my supply of adapters, and I do have a Rayqual Leica R-Sony adapter available. PM me if you want it.
Cheers
Andrew
Thank you Andrew.
I already have more adapters of all kinds than you can shake a stick at.
To help my aging eyes I prefer to use the TechArt Pro (TAP) autofocus adapter.
It connects Leica M Mount to Sony E.
K&F have excellent adapters, also to connect Leica R to Leica M.
So the combination works quite well.
I don’t think my best adapters are a problem.
I also have other Leica lenses with floating elements.
No problem with them either.
Thanks again for your kind offer, with best regards, Karl-Heinz.
I still feel that you are not getting the full performance out of the lens. It is probably related to the Sony Sensor glass being a different thickness. I ran into the same issues...

That may well be.
A bigger problem is my age-related poor eyesight.
That’s why I generally prefer autofocus lenses.
So my Sony A1 will have to do, as I lost interest in Leica cameras, but not in Leica lenses.
I find the Sony Sensor cover glass is more of an issue with certain Leica M lenses.
R lenses are generally still useable on Sony cameras though IMHO.
