It's been quite a few years since I looked at this forum. I too was a Leica R user first for Canon 1Ds, 5D etc. back in the day when Canon lenses were hurting on their latest high mp sensors. Then I switched the mounts to Nikon and used them on my D800E for a few years. When I moved to Sony, I found them harder to use for some reason and sold a few. I still have my 35 Summicron which seems to work beautifully when stopped down a bit. After looking on here I'm wondering if I shouldn't

Leica R are expensive compare to others with similar raw performance. 35mm Cron R is a nice one, I like its bokeh. I regret sold mine a while ago. You may want take it out use it to see how you feel about manual focus.

If you like it. There are a few good ones at good price. For 50mm, 50mm Summicron is nice one I like and not expensive. 60mm Elmarit MACRO is another nice one.

50mm Summilux E60 is nice with beautiful bokeh, however it is very expensive. E55 version is good one but not as special as E60 version. 80mm Summilux is good but may not suit everybody depend on your preference.

For 90mm, 90mm APO is very expensive with great performance but modern lens are close at much lower price. 100mm APO MACRO is a star lens. highly recommended!

latest 90mm Elmarit f2.8 is also recommended with excellent performance. Given the fact more MILC will be available in the near future, I think old Leica M lens worth to consider as well and may keep their value better in a long run, get them now than later as I feel their price will go up. Manual lenses will be more sought after in the future.

Leica R 100/2.8 APO, R 180/2.8 APO, and R 280/4 APO are still head of class, top notch lenses which outperform the competition.

Hello,
choose the focal length you need. Leica-R lenses are very special, I do love them. My favorite focal length is the 28mm and the Leica Elmarit-R 28/2.8 (II) is fantastic...

Thanks for the tips! I loved the look of my Leica R's and will start searching for a few that you've recommended. I love manual focus lenses on my Sony and they will probably be excellent on the new breed of mirrorless from Canon and Nikon too.

Hello,

Sarah is a young french Soprano whose grandparents are german. Eleven years ago, she told me she wanted to be an opera singer. I had heard some records but was never able to see her on a stage. Yesterday night, the outside event was a complete success.
She is gorgeous. Hope she has an international career. She sang two weeks ago at cousin's mariage in Germany and impressed the guests.
Thank you for looking.

Why so few images with the first version of Leica R 1.4/50 (E55 or earlier 1969-1978 series VII filter version)? I'm not sure if these two versions are optically identical, they are both 7/6 designs but this doesn't mean they are identical. Anyone know for sure?

Is this lens rubbish or just unpopular because of cost? It's obviously not cheap but nowhere near the silly prices of the E60.

Jack, Welcome back and very beautiful images.

John, I had both but not the same time. I feel they are about the same in term of sharpness WO and bokeh. per Putt's book, they are identical optically. However, I do feel first version has more mechanical vignette with more pronounced swirly bokeh effect.

E60's status is mixed with great rendering with limited production. It is might be sharper center based on MTF with better bokeh, but I don't want pay that collector price for real world use. E55 is fine, however, even E55, there were two version, one with rubber focusing ring, one with metal focusing ring. I believe metal one only run through 29xxx, which is the one I particular ordered after some research.

Some family stuff with 80mm lux with D850

OVF focus only, how is that possible without eye AF I have decide part with my D850 in favor of Z7 and use DF for the task here in the future. I don't need 45M for these.

Thanks Michael. I had a loaner of the E60 for long enough to decide it wasn't for me, but that was quite a while ago and TBH I regret not buying it at the time when it was still reasonably priced.

I'm interested in the E55 mainly because I wonder how well it might fit in with the R1.4/35 and R1.4/80 which I use quite regularly (mainly for people). Presently I use a range of 1.2/50-58mm lenses as well as Sony ZA 1.8/55 or 1.4/50, which is all fine. I guess I'll keep wondering until I buy one and try it for myself.

Thank you Michael

It's unbelievable how time flies! Your kids grew up so much; your daughter is a young lady now.

After many gear changes you're still R-devotee
Love your images with Lux R-80, it's a very unique lens. I should use it more often.

For now, more with Elmarit-R 28

Leitz Elmarit R 80-200/4 ROM has arrived lately and paired my lonely L V-E R 35-70/4 ROM.I did not have much time to test it thoroughly, but the results so far are very good/excellent on the A72.It is sharp wide open throuought the range, very sharp and very crisp stopped down 1-2f stops and has nice Leica colours.I have yet to search it on behalf of eventual Leica glow.

Here how it goes in pretty much unfavourable conditions,i.e. wide open, hand held in a gloomy, misty November day on the A72.
