Here are some images cross posted in the A7/A7r/A7s Image thread that I took last evening in Magic Hour and at sunset at the Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, PA. Images taken in wind with my tripod mounted Leica R 280mm f4 Apo Telyt lens set to f8 and my A7r camera; images processed in LR5.6.

Just realize you ask here as well Hopefully PM answer satisfies you. 35lux is sharper. 80lux will be sharper at distance, but nail focus will be a little challenge at distance. I realize many people buy this lens partially due to my fault given I got many PM about it
I agree that the Lux 35 is sharper than the 80 wide open. Bokeh quality (which I don't really care about) is very different, as one might expect for the FLs, the 35 being quite a bit busier.
I recently bought the Lux 50 E60 and Elmarit 19 v2, and those two are quite different between them. The Elmarit v2 (or at least my copy) has bolder contrast. On A7R's WTB it seems to tend to be cooler and greener than the 50 E60. The sky and greenery are emphasized. I am attaching a throwaway shot at f/5.6 for illustration.
I was a bit surprised that the 50 E60 seems to match the older 35 and 80 quite well. The color and OOF rendition are smooth and pleasing like the 80.
Just chiming in with some very superficial impressions because I haven't had time to shoot seriously lately.
For me the 80 is a pleasure to hold and use as an object. The combination of size, weight, balance, (stronger than average) focus ring resistance, and (shorter than average) MFD and focus throw all work together to enhance the intimacy and romance of its FOV and rendition. It's a commitment to use, but not a burden. It requires care and patience to focus but the throw is short enough for you to be responsive to fleeting moments. It gets close and is never voyeuristic.
My other R lenses come close but don't give me that feeling exactly. Other short teles I've tried have all paled in comparison in terms of the total experience, even if they may well be optically superior. The Contax 85/1.4 has too long a focus throw for reactive shooting and only goes down to 1m. The FD 85/1.2L is too fat for my hands, and makes me aware of the effort of focusing it. On the other hand the optically almost identical and considerably lighter Lux-M 75 v3 that I had was too thin and too cramped.
Tactile feedback is so crucial and greatly influences one's experience and results, even if it's necessarily very subjective and hard to convey.
Here are some images cross posted in the Sony A7/A7r/A7s image thread that I took last evening at the Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, PA a little before sunset. The light had really failed and I had to do more work than usual in LR5.6 to pull these images as they appear. All images taken in wind with my tripod mounted Leica R 280mm f4 Apo Telyt lens and my Leica R 1.4X Apo Extender with my A7r camera; effective aperture at f11.
