I'm in a pickle. I've been scouring evilbay for a 90mm summicron-R pre ASPH, and I noticed the exact same lens, but in M mount. Aside from the R going to for less money and having a closer MFD than the M version, is there a reason to own one over the other?

it mounts on your camera and it's a different diameter.
i believe there is a slight difference but the designs are very similar optically.

So the optic designs are similar. Hmm, the summicron-R is looking mighty fine at a lower price point and closer focusing distance than. It may be a bit heavier than the M I presume, but I'm fine with that since it will still be lighter than some of my other adapted lenses.

Very informative link there! I was learning about the differences between my two 50 cron-Rs. This must be as close to a Leica "bible" for their lenses it seems!
Very nice shots Jack! I agree with LtZ, the third is wonderful. Isn't the 80 Lux a little front heavy for the A7r? Regardless, your images shine! The Cron bokeh in the second shot is really nice...I think that's what I like the most with the R lenses.
Gregg
Some really nice shots on previous page, R gang. I think we lost Michael to the dark side (RX1) for the time being...
LtZ -- Been following your work and Samy's over at Manual Nikon Glass thread. Impressive stuff...
Greggf -- Would like to see bw version of "Stop!". I think it would turn out great.
Jack -- Beautiful shot of #3 -- Classy and sensual at the same time...
Here's one with the 50 lux...
"She's not gonna' show up.", Jones said.
"You're stuck with me", he added.
"Hey, you wanna' do something fun?" asked Jones playfully.
"You see the green thingy. Turn counter clockwise slowly......"
Thank you LZ, Kokusai & Gregg.
Yes, Summilux-R 80 is a fairly heavy lens; in fact it's heavier than my Zeiss 2/100 MP and equal to Leica 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux-M. However, when you support this Lux/A7R combo in a palm of left hand it's still easy to rotate focus ring while supporting the lens.
