The Zeiss 28mm have strong FC, which is could be nice feature as many many Leica R and M lens for 3D subject. It is depend what you do. F2 is a lot more important for me Low light and DOF control. Leica 28mm is a wonderful lens, but stop at f2.8.
Alex, not only extreme corner, it also has strong FC at infinity. I haven't played with LV that optimized at whole frame instead of center, but if you focus at center, you can see infocus wave (FC) in frame easily.
Here are few from the same day all by 35lux R:...Show more →
Very nice shots and especially colours!
Yes, has... but no so huge as Z28/2 for example ) And I told about f/8-11, and as we can see from MTF f/8 the corners are not ideal. And real lenses confirmed it. But I'm never think that lux-35 for landscapes, this is art lens. And in your hands it's will be right, as I saw previous shots.
Why include a cheap plastic AF Nikkor? The much better built and optically superior 28/2.8 AI-s would've been a much more useful comparison. Maybe seeing a $400 Nikkor compare favorably to such expensive Germans would've hurt too many feelings?
I have a Nikkor 28/2.8 AI-s. If I can get the other two, I'll do a comparison write up.

Actually, I have the Nikkor 28/2.8 AI-s and plan to keep it along with Elmarit-R 28. Once the weather gets better and time permits I will take few test shots, including el cheapo Vivitar Komine 28/2.8.

This is will be very interesting comparison and how ai-s with high-resolution sensor. I sold my copy 1.5-2 years ago
Worldinlens, Almass; thank you for sharing your observations regarding Elmarit-r and Zeiss 28mm.
Zhangyue: nice shots with your new Summilux-R 35. Now that you have both 35; Cron and Lux, is Zeiss Distagon 35/1.4 appealing to you? I may be a bit larger and heavier than the Leicas, but perhaps a good 2-in-1 compromise.
Few shots from this morning with Elmarit-R 28 at f/8 and f/5.6

I don't know anything about this man, but based on this review I bought my first Leica-R 2 years ago.. It was this R28/2.8

Amazing shots, time and places, really pleasure for eyes. I think in this case what the lens does not matter

I am curious myself, especially at a closer range where Nikkor really shines. From couple Elmarit-r 28 test shots at f/2.8 – 4; it does look promising though
I'm a very long time could not get used to especially close focus of R28 up to 2 times more at the minimum distance than Ai-S. But at the same time, it was obvious that the bokeh from R28 is much more smooth
Also, I feel that the wider focussing ring and throw on Nikkor can make things easier at MFD.
I know this is Leica-R forum, but this is a shot with Nikkor 28/2.8 AI-s on D800E at very close distance, perhaps 30 cm from my friend's car.

Tho Im curious, how you managed to focus? As far as I know, Nikon 1 is very unfriendly to manual focusing..
Manual focusing is tricky with the V1 - you're right. The zoomed-in views are almost useless as focusing aids, at least when the camera isn't mounted on a sturdy tripod. With really fast lenses focus bracketing is an option for static subjects. On the shot above it was a mixture between luck and a great DoF-zone caused by the small sensor (shot at f/4) and the great distance.
) focusing process with all Nikon Ai-S easily than with Leica-R. Truth. Different optical schemes in most cases: Nikon based on Gaussian bokeh, Leica R based on Sonnar as I remember. Maybe I'm wrong
Almass; and THAT is a ride!
A friend of mine whose few Leica-R lenses I was able to use when I got into DSLR 2 years ago rides a red Ducati. It will be a great subject to shoot.

I had Zeiss zf.2 both f2 and f1.4. The f1.4 one has really nice Bokeh to me. If it is in planar 50 size, it will be never for sale. However, the huge size make it no go for me. Leica 35lux's bokeh is a lot unpredictable, some case it is very nice, some case, it is not and busy with double line. I like its character and I feel it's center resolution WO is superb, it is better than I thought in my previouse post. I used it today and find it is a very sharp lens if nail focus.
The lens current market value make it a hard sell, IMO. I'd chose 35cron if I have to recommend one to someone, but I will keep 35lux if I have to keep one. f1.4 is just very important to me. I only used it two days, but I am in loving with it more and more it is a big lens but balance well with my D700. Feel a lot better than Zeiss. It's rendering with strong SA make portrait has very nice feel at 1.4, and since resolution is there, with minimal PP, the photo can be very POP, but in leica way not zeiss way: like floating in the frame.
BTW wonderful cityscape shots with 28mm, everything is perfect.
Alex, thanks for your comments, out of all leica lens, I feel 50lux E60 and this 35lux and 80lux are three must have lens for my taste. Leica R are underrated lens compare their M brother. If you want manual 1.4 with full of character, there is no better choice.
No crop for all of them. I found I seldom mis focus with this lens. Even I do usually I will know before head, which is not the case with Zeiss 35mm 1.4. I wish I still have the Zeiss to compare. It could be just my focus skill improved instead of lens difference. Having 35mm fast glass manual make a lot sense than other focal length to do manual for fast focus. For some shots, No AF can be as fast and as free
