E55 in Germany as I know (does not matter Leitz or Leica)
Leica M will be work with R lenses without rom. There's an adapter without any contact:
Thanks for your info. Your links shows that 11115 and 11339 are the same lens.
Sorry, I meant M10 with the official adapter.
I will need time to buy into the Leica M lenses. So using the more affordable Leica R as the interim is what I am thinking. Anyway, I have always liked the Cron 35. Sold it off on impulse once. And looking to acquire it back.

Yes, same E55. One non-ROM, another ROM. Both produced in Germany
Few test shots with a newly acquired Elmarit-R 28 E55 (1996 version)
Between curiosity, Worldinlens evil tempting and quickly raising prices of some (in decent condition) Leica-R glass I decided to obtain this lens for mostly mid-distant urban/landscaping shots. It was a toss between Zeiss and Elmarit-R, but despite inconvenience of adopting Leica-R lenses I hope the final choice was good. Perhaps owners of Zeiss 28/2 and Elmarit-R E55 (last and ROM versions) could share their opinions or point to relevant links.
Warm and fuzzy; Leica-R glass may have less pop than Zeiss, but it's a joy to use for B/W shots especially on film.
This one, digital, was worth the sin of shooting over my wife's shoulder.

Thanks,
Oleg's review, especially corners samples, helped to make the call.
Said that, I do not plan to part with Nikkor 28/2.8 AI-s, at least for extreme close up shots. Considering its price, it should be a 'must have' alt glass.
In any event, Elmarit-R 28 shots on your site made my choice much easier. Gracias!
Yes, the N28/2.8Ai-S better choice than AF-D. My first 28 was Z28/2, after few month sold it and a year shoted on N28/2.8 Ai-S. Beautiful lens for that money, have a very close focus with nice non-ordinary bokeh. Great wide-open performance, and sharp corners on f/11. But I'm not sure for 100% that Nikon ai-s good for d800e as for d700. R28/2.8 excellent always.

^ why anyone would use R on M is beyond me.
I am seriously considering it. But, I have 16 R lenses including 3 zooms as well as my 3 macro lenses including the 100 Apo, and 5 telephoto lenses including both 280 Apo lenses.

Rich
Rich,
Isnt it so ridiculously heavy though? Kills the balance of having an M body? I would just love to use M lenses on an M body

Why? The new M just like any other mirroless camera that can be used with any lens. I don't really see point put 15-50mm lens on it, but for zoom and tele and APO, that is awesome body.
I might even put my 35/50 corn/lux R on it just for different rendering. The picture of M with adapter looks a very balanced camera for most normal range lens. It will be fun and that is what hobby for

I handled the M with the Multifunction Grip at Photo Plus with the R to M adapter with my f3.4 180mm Apo and my f2.8 100mm Macro Apo Elmarit lenses. Everything balanced quite well. Sure it might be nice to have some of the wide angle M lenses, but I may purchase 1 or 2 of those or a Zeiss WA lens later.
Alex, Those 50lux E60 shots have wonderful rendering.
Jako, No wonder, that 28 reaching $2000+, it perform wonderfully on D800E. However, I like your last 50cron shot the best. I feel it is like from M9, not to say M9 better, but just less technical if that make sense
I recently bought a 35Lux R locally at decent price. I shave the lens myself, now it is clear my D700's mirror.
Today, I give it a spin. No surprise, I like it again for its color and DOF transition. But, again, I don't feel this leica can be a good landscape lens. I feel most old Leica lux and cron are really 'people' lens. They are full of character but also lack technical perfection. Understand what is your expectation to avoid disappoint
WO, it has haze, the SA is stronger than Zeiss 35mm, but resolution is there. Though I don't feel it is as good as its MTF suggested, whose WO's 40lp/m reach at almost 60% in center. (that is one of best performance if it is there.)
After lunch, I spend a hour photo walk by myself around town to give it a test drive.
Here are few samples. I don't remember aperture anymore, either WO, at f2.8 or f5.6.

I always liked the Elmarit 28/2.8 - E55. There is really no contest with the ZF2 28/2 or the Nikkor 28/1.4.
It balances very well on the D800/E but not so well on the D3s and D4.
These shots are with either the D800 or E as I don't have the original files at the moment.

Zhangyue, nice shots on WO and and my sincere congratulations! A great Christmas "present" for yourself
Yes, for landscapes this lens is not very suitable. Resolution on the extreme corners even at f/11 is not very good, and shooting against the sun is fraught flares sometimes
It's a pretty boring shot, but I'm happy to report that my (leitaxed) Apo-Telyt-R 180/3.4 works via FT-1-adapter on the Nikon V1: Apo-Telyt R 180/3.4 on Nikon V1 von georgsfoto auf Flickr
The power plant is really far off. The Apo-Telyt doesn't show any CA's on the V1, unlike many other long lenses.

The Zeiss 28mm have strong FC, which is could be nice feature as many many Leica R and M lens for 3D subject. It is depend what you do. F2 is a lot more important for me Low light and DOF control. Leica 28mm is a wonderful lens, but stop at f2.8.
Alex, not only extreme corner, it also has strong FC at infinity. I haven't played with LV that optimized at whole frame instead of center, but if you focus at center, you can see infocus wave (FC) in frame easily.
