C/Y 50/1.7

Wide Open (and processed with Nik Silver Effex Pro; the grain was added in post). Glowy, for sure but still picks up fine detail like a champ (check out the skin texture).

Here is the 50/1.7 stopped down to around f/4 or 5.6. You can see a good amount of presence in the way it renders here, which I love.

Nice shots, Carsten. The bird looks like a Greenfinch/Carduelis chloris to me. Nica capture.
I'll have to try the VS 80-200/4 some time...

The lens holds up against diffraction very well at smaller apertures of f/11-16.

On this page the 70-200/4, 135/2.8, 50/1.7, 85/2.8 and 28/2.8 are probably the best C/Y bargain lenses available - and as shown excellent IQ!

Thanks. I pass by this train yard about once a month each time when flying into KC and driving to the hotel. Flew in a couple hours early today just to take some pix at sunset. Huge train yard with trains everywhere, so plenty of trains to shoot. Find a nice spot, wait awhile - and a train will be there soon enough.

Hmmm, iffy:

I means “iffy”. A lens earns an Iffy rating if some owners say a given lens and Canon combination work, and if other owners say it will not work. Since the answer is unclear and a simple “Yes” and “No” could be misleading, the term Iffy was added.
