You guys have been torturing me with this thread for over a year now ... NO MORE !!!
I've been waiting for the 'right one' to come along ... and 'pulled the trigger' today (although I seem to have had some friendly competition).
I should have an SLR/C in my hands by the end of next week (hopefully) ... Woo-Hoo !!!
Looking forward to putting some Mamyia, Oly & Zeiss glass on this one and FINALLY joining the club.
I see many like the color from the SLR/C over the 5D2.
Anyone have any direct comparisons?
Cannot post processing make the outputs the same?
How does the SLR/C compare to the original 5D?
Maybe I should get a 5DC to go along w/ my 5D2?
Christmas in June ... Santa just dropped off an SLR/C.
Hope I can learn how to make this thing sing like you guys have been showing it ... I'm actually a bit nervous about shooting with it, wondering if I'm expecting too much.
Any PP tips for how to process the files (CS3) as they will likely respond differently than my 5D ... i.e. sharpening with no AA filter ??
Download Kodak's PhotoDesk, it's the best way to get the most out of the colors. I've been using it in conjunction with LR3 for all of mine so far. Have fun with it and post up some photos!
You will be surprised to find out what your lenses were capable of...
As long as you are not after high ISO or a blazing AF system, I think you will be in for a treat....
But again, I'm biased....

Can you give an overview of your workflow between the two programs?
I basically just import them to Photo Desk and do some basic adjustments color-wise, as the colors are noticeably better when run through Kodak's program. Then for further processing is done usually in LR3, or sometimes CS4.
I've got some "newer" CF cards and they seem to be writing VERY slowly in the SLR/C. I expect it to be slow, but am wondering if there is a compatibility issue with the "older" format vs. the "newer" format cards ... I seem to remember reading about that somewhere and thinking I would want to use "older" CF cards in the SLR/C once I got one. I've since forgotten what I read ...
What cards (CF or other) do you guys use that gives you the best "shot to shot" performance. Also, do you employ the dual card setup, i.e. one card for RAW, one card for jpg ... and if so, what strategies do you find useful.
I never expected a speed demon (I've got a 1D MK II N for that) ... but I would like to "optimize" its performance by using the most appropriate recording media. Suggestions
Also, what kind of battery life (shots per charge) can I expect?
Thanks. This camera is soooo gonna be worth the 'quirks' once I get them figured out.
BTW ... Anybody got any insight into the "Lens Optimization" function?
I've been using the SLR/n and it has the lens library for mostly Nikon lenses (up to 2004). Using the 'optimized' values provided by the lens library, I noticed some green corners/edges on the images, mostly for wide angle lenses (17-35/2.8 AFS). So I turn all the optimized value to 0 and so for I am pretty happy with my results even with my 14-24/2.8 zoom. The nice thing about Photo Desk is that you can experiment with different lens optimization value for the lens you have.

I have tried several different newer CF cards but it seems make no difference at all. So I just use an older 16GB card. The card writing speed is so 'slow' but for walk around 'shot to shot' I was never bothered.
I am using Sandisk Extreme cards (not III, not IV, just Extreme), and they are fine. I had some trouble with Ultras before that. None of them are fast though. I can buffer a few shots, but it takes a long time for the buffer to clear.
Funny story ... I thought the lens optimization setting was per the focal length of the lens. Put on a 90mm lens and set it to 90. I was shooting under flourescent lights and couldn't keep them from turning green on the edges ... thought I had a WB problem or a bad sensor. Got home and found the manual online, or I'd have never figured that one out. WHEW !!! That was CRAZY.
Now that I understood what it ISN'T used for, had to wonder when it makes sense to use. Set on 0 right now ... good to know that I can play with it in PP, if the need arises.
+1 @ older 16GB.
Working on some Pano shot's ... would like to minimize the time between shots due to changing light conditions or moving objects, but it looks like the buffer will handle 6 shots (Large Raw + Large Jpeg) and closer to 19 or 20 RAW.
I tend to shoot RAW + small Jpeg, so maybe I'll get 8-10 shots before I fill the buffer. Should not be a major problem for the cars ... typically less than 6 images ... but was thinking ahead regarding landscape pano's.
I wonder if it can splitting the RAW & Jpegs to different card will make any difference ??
Carsten ... I'm using Ultra's right now. What kind of difference did you notice between them and the Extreme ... i.e. faster (relative) or more stable or both ??
I tried to shoot some pano's in 'rapid' succession ... thought I might have missed a capture from going 'too fast', but it looks like it must have still been in the buffer.
No complaints ... just trying to learn the 'limitations' so I shoot accordingly.
Next question:
Bulb Setting ... best way to hold shutter open for extended time, or to use with intervalometer.
Battery life is short at best, I recommend having 2 or 3 available, freshly charged at all times. As far as cards go, I'm using Lexar 8gb cards, and I haven't had any issues, just make sure its formatted in the camera. The buffer is rather small, so you do have to be a bit careful with pans, but it isn't too big of an issue for most things.
