Some shots from a spontaneous drive down to Big Bend the other day. Spent about a total of 22 hours driving for approximately 8 hours of shooting, with a 3 hour nap, then drove back home. All this in single digit temperatures. Crazy, huh?
The fatal flaw of the trip? It was a new moon cycle so there was ZERO ambient, thus it was pitch black....so, light painting was in order!
Nothing like a 24mm f/1.4 to get those really shallow focus environmental portraits. Recently saw a full-length bride and groom portrait from down low in the middle of NYC Time's Square that blew my socks off. A very unique and unusual look that you cannot get with any other lens.

Here's again 24mm at 1.4, taken at the sunday school at our church, and the other one was on the parking lot when we've done our groceries
If time is not a major concern, you can always fake f/0.9 kind of ultra ultrathin DOF in Photoshop realistically.

Uzay: There are other options around this fl that I would prefer for landscape use over the 24....such as Zeiss 21 and Nikon 14-24. There is no lens better for average everyday shots than the Nikon 24 1.4 in my opinion

But something confuses me; i don't see too many landscape shots taken with this lens but many general purpose everyday shots, why is this?
Because this is a unique f1.4 wide lens... and it's magnificent power is wide open where any other lens could not compete. At f8 there are tons of lenses who can perform very well, some of them being quite cheap. That's why this lens is not a "must" for a landscaper, but for one who use it in a creative way for documentary, events, street, portraits, low light, night, etc. At least this is my perception.

Your ponit makes sense but still expensive for such a use
