M = aperture control from aperture control ring only. This is the position the switch must be in when using the lens on an adapter attached to a DSLR otherwise in the "A" position the aperture will remain wide open regardless of the aperture ring position.
My experience with M645 adapters is they have a lever inside to stop down Mamiya lenses even if they are set to the "A" mode. Which is a pity, since the A/M switch works like a preset mechanism on DSLRs.

Well I'll be damned.....you are right. When I got my first M645 lens I took it out of the box and couldn't get aperture control without setting the switch to "M". I hadn't really noticed the little lever in the adapter and everything worked fine with all lenses set to "M" so I didn't give it any more thought.
I stand corrected. The switch position makes no difference when using an adapter with the stop down lever (which I would assume they all have).

That's the right approach. From my own experience, I have found that if you always go by everything others say you will inevitably end up missing out somehow.
Paul, I'm one of the people that has described weakenss in the 80/1.9 bokeh, but it's only in certain conditions, where you have very small and very bright highlights. In most cases, it's just fine. In your photos above, it's great.
Paul,
Welcome and enjoy.Excited to see how these perform on your kodak as well.
From what i have seen with the 80mm is the bokeh is very good to great at times with a 3D pop to it under the right conditions. The only time that i have not liked the bokeh is if you have some high grass behind your subject at mid to long distances. These situations can easily be avoided.Enjoy.Looking forward to some more posts from you.As well as how you feel it compares with the higher end glass that you have and have had in the past.

Just a quick question regarding 80/1.9 and 80/4
I found one for a great price, but as I recall N version was more contrasty than C..however, these lense's designations are C 80/1.9N and C 80/4N, which puzzles me somewhat...
I would be grateful if anyone could give heads up..
Better late than never:
@Everyone who responded to my enquiry about a hood for the 200 APO: Thanks for the suggestions. I may try the hood for the RB 127-250. It does look like the extension hood made for this lens has rather long threads (judging from jcolwell's picture), so a normal 86mm hood might not be able to reach them.
