No, I'm really not. (Why did I come back here, I must be crazy...)
Yours is another shot that makes me say "huh?" (sorry. -really.)
Lots of great pics in this thread, from an artistic standpoint. - but not one that makes me want to buy a lens, except perhaps for the very nice 50mm, and the 55 macro with it's exceptional plasticity.
I'm just mystified by what you folks are seeing here.
Good colors Jos from the 28yus (gotta dig out the ML28 pics).
Here's a Yashica ML 1.7/50. I think this is the least 'Zeissish' lens from my Yash's, it's got a well rounded appearance. Good coating, good flare resistance, good wide open perfomance, neutral bokeh and a good people's lens.
Obivously I don't have many pics to prove my point. Compared to the C/Y Contax 1.7/50 this lens fares quite well regarding people and bokeh.
The Contax otoh is the world record holder in laboratory photography .-)
One more, this time the Yashica ML 28/2.8 (2nd version). Compared to the Contax brethren it does come very close on an APS-C camera. I understand it will not hold the corners on a small format camera, however it's about half the size. I was astounded by both lenses with their full open resolution and clarity in colors. I actually did a test run with both lenses of the same subject and could not see a difference even at f/2.8. The Zeiss has better color separation, but not by much.
Yashica ML 2.8/28 2nd version on K100D, f/4 (ca.), no pp jpg copy
Helimat,
I am thinking that you should probably get rid of your 21mm its crap by the way i will take it.
Here is a shot of my cat taken with the 50mm ML f1.9 @1.9 but i also had a Kenko 1.4x attached, notice the detail in his eye in the 100% crop provided.

I think you lack the frame of reference here. a good amount of Yashica lenses are dirt cheap because they were cheap to begin with. When put to the test, a 30year old Yashie is gonna out perform it's closest modern equivalent. In my camera bag, that would be the EF 18-55.
Don't forget a good amount of YUS/DSB's and handful of ML's were single coated lenses [though ML's were usually dual coated] and definitely not multi-coated. So, these lenses are for us that use them, are the best equivalents to some of the surprisingly good cheap russian lenses.
Maybe that's it? Certainly feels that way for me. Others may be the same
Hi!
I got some Yashica lenses and are just stunning!
My 50/1.4 ML is sharper than Planar(wide open) and is very similar in case of rendering.
ML 50/1.4:
superb pictures, Piotr! I love the bokeh! not what leica or sigmalux followers would fall for but it is what I am lately been looking for. I presume you used FF camera and did some thorough postprocessing?
I just had two, 50F2 ML and 135F2.8 DSB on B/S for over a week at $25.00 each-no takers. I took them to a camera show in Philadephia last Sunday-and basically gave them away. I even post a heads up on this forum that i was putting them on B/S. I thought they would move-wrong again.

People are mainly interested in 50mm 1.7 and 1.4 in ML version

looks like I will have to spend some money and get 5D
5D is excellent DSLR! I have s5 pro before and 5d is much much better. Excellent camera for manual lenses
I had Yashica ML 135 2.8(II) and it wasn`t as good as other Yashica lenses - Contax 135 2.8 Sonnar is far better in terms of sharpness, contrast, microcontrast and ca control.
I got Yashica ML 28 2.8 too and it`s very good lens but i prefer Olympus Zuiko 28 2.8(even more than Distagon 28 AE). Excellent flare&CA control and superb sharpness wide open and compact size!
I`m waiting for ML 24mm 2.8 - it seems to be an excellent performer but i must check it
Well, keep these nice contax and yashica pictures coming! have not seen such nice ones for a while, everyone seems to concentrate more on modern Zeiss here.
