Just picked me up a nice Yashica 50mm ML f1.9 and i really like what i see.
Was wondering if there are any other Yashica users out there. If so could you post some pics taken with the Yashica lens and tells us what lens it is etc.
Thanks.
Altie "helimat" is an active Yashica user, with choice ML optics 21/3.5 and 55/1.2. I have the more modest ML 24/2.8, 50/2 and 200/4. Will receive my next piece tomorrow (55/2.8 1:2 macro). The Yashica primes cover a broad FL range, are usually fine performers, and are well-built. The price is nice, too. Below is the 200 with heavy post: http://www.patternassociates.com/rico/photo/alpha/i07d.jpg
Please don't mention the ML 21/3.5, please don't mention the ML 21/3.5, please don't mention the ML 21/3.5.
Damn, did I think that or did I write it...
One of the few lenses I regret selling, more than 15 years ago, was the ML 21/3.5. Not very good at 3.5 or 4 but excellent at 5.6-11. A really nice lens, for the uber cheap price at the time, but not so cheap any more. If you can find one.
I just got a copy of the ML 50/1.9 and have not been able to really test it yet. Someone mentioned it had Biotar type bokeh. Am selling my copy of the 55/4 macro on eBay right now. 21/3.5, eh??

So how much does the 21 f 3.5 tend to sell for now adays? I am on the hunt for a WA on my 5D
Not sure, I don't really follow them on evilbay or anything like that. I did see one several months ago for about $500USD which I thought was outrageous, but then I only paid about $90 for mine all those years ago when only Yashica and possibly Contax users might have wanted one. Not many were sold, it was not a terribly common lens.
Yes, they have been selling on Ebay for around $500 -$600 this past year. At that price, I don't think the performance/IQ ratio is worth it. They're nice, but not great.
They seem to price in about the same range, or perhaps just a bit more than the OM 21/3.5, and of course far less than the Contax 21/2.8. There is one on eBay for less than $500, but of course there is also a few slightly overpriced ones at Kevin Cameras.

While the 28mm has left me annoyed at times, it has rendered some great shots, despite it effectively being one of the crappier lenses Yashica has ever churned out.
As is your right. - But I've found quite a few example pics online, from various sources. They always look a little soft, even in the center, and there is very little plasticity. I'm also not knocked out by the colors.
I'm not a huge Zuiko fan, either, but the Zuiko 21/3.5 is a better lens.
Well I cannot argue with you, especially when you have compiled so much evidence... In the form of random web-sized images. I like it, and to be honest, I paid in the mid-$300's, and I don't think I will be letting it go anytime soon.
