Has anyone shot the 50 Planar next to a Sigma(lux) 50? I know it is kind of apples and oranges, but I don't think I can afford to have both, and am therefore considering if I should sell the Sigma to fund the ZE. Just looking for feedback from anyone.
If it just comes down to fundamentally you like the zeiss look or not, I'm good with that, too, and I suspect that is kind of what it comes down to .
Hmm, I haven't shot them next to each other, but I have shot both. I own the Sigma, and have borrowed the 50/1.4 ZF.2 from a friend from time to time. I don't really see them as competing with each other. I would say that wide open the Sigma is better for most things, having a very nice boke and look. The 50/1.4 struggles a little wide open, close up, but at a distance it improves noticeably and has a great look. Stopped down the Zeiss slaughters the Sigma in every way, except AF I would pick the Sigma for people and the Zeiss for non-people, non-action.
Yeah, but I am concerned about only having AF in a 24mm at the wider end. Most of the time I am manually focusing anyhow because I don't like the placement of the XXd/5d AF points, but to not have it available in a pinch is a little worrisome. If I had just a few hundred bucks more, I'd prolly just get the 50 and keep both of them, but that is a very tenuous option right now.
Two more nice ones! Nice job realizing the pink/green pop.
I don't know if we own the same Sigma, but mine barely AFs It is okay with decent light and a focus point close to where I need to be, but if I am at the other end of the scale, it takes forever to drag its sorry a$$ to the correct place. I don't know what Sigma's problem is with AF, it is just sooo slow. But I keep the lens anyway. Nice lens.

Yes, it's a cemetery, one of the many similar looking in Kyoto. For me as an European they look quite artistic. I will post more, when I find time to post-process them.
