Paolo, do you mean a serial number? They have no intrinsic meaning but they are sequentially numbered and the numbers go back to the 1920's or something. There are lists of sequences on various web sites that can help you pin down when your lens was made but it's typically just for older lenses. If you want to find out when a newer lens (such as ZE/ZF) was made the easiest thing is to email the serial number to Zeiss and ask them.
Ah! So the numbers near the filter thread is the serial number instead of the rear where Canon does it.
I have a fair idea when it was made as I ordered this lens within the month of availability in December 2008. That was when CZ started selling the ZE mount.
akul, amazing work as always. #3 is a award-winning one.
alkanphel, I love those macro shots.
Mast3rChi3f, those seascapes are so beautiful, particularly the second one.
Loving my 35mm Zeiss I decided to purchase another recently. First I bought the 21, but considering I own a great copy of Canon's 24-70, and the focal length relatively close to my 35mm f/2, I exchanged it for a 100mm f/2 MP. All I can say is whoa! Literally I have only captured a dozen or so test shots, but I am blown away with the ability to selectively focus...
These were snapped in a couple of minutes in my backyard this morning (handheld of course)...
Makten - Great shots, love the first one with the rendition in the dark area.
Hugo - Wonderful shots. 2nd shot, 'sunset' is my favorite
mshi - I love the shot of bamboo fence with 100MP. Great tone, texture and bokeh. Wonderful closeups.
Alkanphel - Very nice closeups.
Ruben - Great series with beautiful sky. #1, #3, #6 are my favorite
Malkovic- Second shot, B/W shot of frozen water and leaf in front, is beautiful.
joakim - Very serene and beautiful shot. I did not feel crop was necessary, but would love to see it in a slightly bigger size.
Philber - Interesting to see two quite different 'take' of the same statue. 85 feel like the man is in control of the horse, whereas 21 feel like horse is overpowering the man. Anyway, I just love the way how you use 85 to captures volume. Great work.
Diploneis - The second shot of the house is wonderful. Color really stands out in otherwise monochromatic scene. Last shot is stunning.
kevphoto - I like the first one with 100MP. Beautiful light.
Amazing shots everyone.. I've at least a hundred pages to catch. Amazing quality of work, as always! It's been a while since I posted in this thread. Lots of new comers.. Great to see. Here is a recent one.

Ajay! That's a magnificent shot with excellent POV and gorgeous light. I love how clouds extend the diagonal composition. Very well done!
+1
Alkanphel - Yet another beautiful set of closups. Please tell me that you use tripod, because otherwise, I don't even know how you achieve your focus !!
