Is the Zeiss Makro-Sonnar 100/2.8 that was produced for the Contax N system at all similar to the current 100 Macro ZE? Obviously, the ZE is a full stop faster but that aside, how do they compare performance wise? Has anyone here had experience with both?
beautiful shots Bob...all three. Is that the moon in #1? We have several industrial parks similar to this here in Savannah but ALL of them are gated and I don't have access...is that not the case there? Or do you work at one?

Thanks! It is the moon in #1 a full moon at that. There are many areas that are gated but much of the island is on public grounds so I go where I can get access. Once in a while, someone will question what I'm doing but so long as I stay away from the Coast Guard restricted areas as well as private property, they don't bother me.
Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I seem to always take a couple pictures of tress while I am out. The Zeiss T* coating really helped make this one work.
Mark - thanks for the new word in my vocabulary; even if I probably won't remember how to pronounce or spell it
OK guys. Now that I am stricken with Zeiss fever, I had put the 100mm MP ZE on the top of my list. I notice a lightly used 50mm MP ZE for sale and look to your thoughts on preferences of the two. Obviously, the 100 has twice the reach but beyond the obvious, what do you like about one vs the other. I was clearly smitten by the posts of the 100mm in this thread and maybe I need to see more shots with the 50mm. So, let me know your thoughts.
Ryan, great shot and welcome back to the good side
Bob, the 50 MP is great, and in many ways similar to the 100 MP. Having said that, the 100 MP is definitely more spectacular. You can find a quite a few 50 MP shots in this thread.
Anyway here are a few more:
This is the same butterfly that I posted a few pages back, but this time shot with a 50 MP.
The rest are a bit unusual as I used my 7D rather than my 5DII:
Why use a 7D? 1.6x more magnification at MFD but most importantly because I had some other lens that I was using more on the 5DII.
Bob....Luka forgot to put the disclaimer out so I will do it for him....'I make any lens look good'
That being said...I have a ZF 50 MP scheduled to arrive today and have had the ZF 100 MP for the past 6 months or so. The 100MP is amazing, it really is. I rarely used the 100 though because it just isn't my style (the length). 50mm is much more comfortable for me. I will report back in a couple days with a layman's point of view

This is for sure.
Thank you all for the feedback. Now it's decision time . . . jump on the 50 or wait for a 100. Not sure as I would likely sell my Canon 50 f/1.4 and/or my Canon 80 f/1.8. I already have the Canon 35 f/1.4L. Such decisions . . .
