Those two are really cool looking specimens! I was a "dog person" until I caved and let my wife get a kitten about 2 months ago. Glad I did, they are a lot of fun! They, as in I eventually insisted we get another one so they can be friends and operate a terror cell in our house at night! The vast differences in personality between the two is quite intriguing.

When I was a young boy, three or four, I used to round up the cats in my neighborhood. A story often told by my mother was arriving in the kitchen to find me with my back to the refrigerator. I looked up at her and said "Mommy, there isn't a kitty in the refrigerator." She opened the door and found a kitten sitting on top of a bowl of mashed potatoes.

Eventually, I found a beautiful cat that had been abandoned on a country lane near where we lived that proved to be pregnant. My mother finally relented and permitted me to keep that cat. One of those kittens, whom I named "Fuzzy Waddles" remained in our home for twelve years before it died of renal poisoning because a neighbor hit it with a rake one day.

I can't have a cat where I live, but I take EVERY opportunity to seek out and play with cats in my world. They are rare and wonderful creatures, who, unlike dogs, invite you into their life on their terms. They are independent, curious and wonderfully loving once they've confirmed your trustworthiness. Dogs are easy to love because unless they've been abused, they will wag their tail and appreciate whatever attention is directed their way. Cats may be willing to spend time on your lap, but they can as easily walk away regardless of how much you may tempt them with affection.

Love these photos. Glad I stumbled on this thread. Thanks everyone.

So now I know where you're hanging out when you're not of the gear threads carrying a sandwich board that says "THE 180 f/2.8 IS GREAT!"

I ought to have someone take a photo of me doing just that.

Also: The 180/2.8 really is great .

I was at a birthday celebration this evening for an older gentleman. When I arrived I found him settled on a sofa with a cat draped over his legs. I couldn't resist taking a couple of photos. These were shot with the Nikon 50 f/1.2 AI-s at f/2 mounted on a D700.

The second photo it appears the cat is staking out his territory. I learned the cat is 15 years old and enjoys nothing more than a lap to rest upon.

Curtis, that second shot sure does appear that the cat is screaming "MINE! my lap, you can't have it!" The oldest cat I've had was 21 when she passed.

Beautiful images! I'd be envious if I didn't have some great shots in my own archives.

Why thank you very much . Is Sasha a Maine Coon? She's very beautiful in any event.

She wasn't around for long, but I got many good images of her:

Thank you! She's a shelter cat, but I believe she's at least part Maine Coon.
