This little guy had two hummers buzzing him from the rear....and they picked the wrong hummer to mess with and weren't expecting this move....

Hi...I'm Boomer...and I'm a lens-a-holic....

The last four if I go back and check the originals probably aren't crops...all the rest are,I was cropping everything at first to see how I was doing on the focus....many of those shots are at ISO 1600 to get the shutter speed needed...occasionally I get some down as low as 800 ISO and still keep a shutter speed at 1250...rarely get as low as 400-200 ISO for high shutter speed....other then cropping and adding text,no post processing with any of those images because I was just practicing & shooting jpeg.

Welcome to our club.

Hehehe, I think a lot of the people in the Alt section are as well.

Yeah, I noticed there was little or no processing to all of your images - but the red-bibbed guys ( https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/846121/2#8607548 ) are incredibly impressive for 100%. I was (pleasantly) surprised!

Figured most of the lot here were addicted as well...Try to make a point of tucking a bit away each month for photography.

I'm not rich a rich man and my other hobby takes most my extra spending money.

Love the shots!
Didn't know you guys had humming birds in US of A...thought those were native to Latin America...

I did some walkarounds with 70-210 in Sweden in -30 and pretty much shot wide open due to the low natural light. None of the shots had much CA at all.
Just recently in Japan when I spent some time in the strong sunshine, I notice the fringing in high contrast borders (as you could see from the archer shot)...

Well, not all of the shots are like that, so I will just keep experimenting. My CY 35-70 though keeps me a little busy...hehehe

Hummingbirds are migratory though so check map schedules if you're in N. America and wanna shoot a few. Bang! ... Oops... I meant "Click".

I've seen that you spend time in Sweden and Japan and didn't figure the info would be of value other then some insight on hummingbird photography....mostly though,it was directed at those who might come across this thread in the future and have the patience for this kind of photography....

When I first started taking pics of the hummingbirds a few months ago,my go to lens was and still is the Canon 70-200 f4 L...after a couple of weeks of practice I decided to see how some of my old Nikkor telephoto primes and the Series 1 Vivitar 200mm f3 did...then I cycled through various super telephoto primes and the two super-telephoto zooms in my collection... a few that really surprised me were the Olympus OM Zuiko 300mm f4.5 and the Meyer Optik 4/300 with tubes, much better then I expected...also took time to cycle through varios other lenses...just a couple of weeks ago I decide to see how the first three versions Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm did...the first one I choose to use was the Tokina version...then I got busy with some other photography...this weekend I'll have some extra time...I'll give the other two S-1 Vivitars a go....and the first one will be the Kiron version.

Vivitar Series 1 200mm f3

Vivitar Series 1 90-180mm Flat Field Zoom

Nikkor 180mm f2.8 ED AI-S

Olympus OM Zuiko 300mm f4.5

Meyer Optik Gorlitz Orestegor 4/300

I like the Meyer Optik Gorlitz Orestegor 4/300 and the Nikkor 180mm f2.8 ED AI-S... Especially the Nikon. All of the Nikons I own are superbly sharp like this too.

On your Olympus OM Zuiko 300mm f4.5 shot it's a little difficult to tell the qualities from that particular shot. Most of the Zuikos I've owned have been "great" with a few in the "awesome" category - Or what is it Mawz says... "exceptional".

Sorry....Edited the post with a cropped image....

No surprises with the Nikkor 180mm f2.8 ED...pretty much what's expected from that lens.

BTW... been a Nikon user for over 40 years.
