It's fairly easy to focus. Nothing different from 2/35, the focus throw is a little longer though. Yeah, I have the Eg-S focusing screen. I would say stiffness is about the same, if not less, as the 50 MP.

Thanks Ajay ...

To Whom It May Concern...Adorama and B&H are now both out of the ZE 35/1.4. Popflash in LA still lists availability and at a discount, $1800.

Dogwood by ajay.c, on Flickr

I processed an image from my mini photo walk with Wayne. This is the first shot that I sharpened for web size, with this lens. Colors and bokeh are just terrific.

We shot some images to compare this lens with the C/Y 1.4/35 and ZF 2/35. Comparisons to come !

Wonderful bokeh and very special drawing style. If I shot Canikon, this lens would certainly be in my line up.

I like the bokeh and transition to OOF of this new 1.4

Very tempting to sell my 35/2 for it.

From what I see, it's not a 'trade up'. They are very different lenses in application as well as sheer weight and size. More like complimentary pieces of glass rather than redundant if you own both. I sold my ZF35/2 hoping for 'more of the same' but an extra stop faster but this is clearly not the case.

If it only was a stop faster with the same rendering style... I wouldn't be interested in the 1.4
You have a point that the 35/2 wouldn't be redundant when also owning the 1.4, but I'm not one of those people that wants to own multiple lenses of the same focal length. (I also own a 35L, but that's for the times I need AF)

I choose which lens overall renders the most appealing to me.

The size and weight is still a big obstacle, because a 35mm is often my walkaround lens.

Another question for the owners of the new 1.4 ZE:

Is focussing really as difficult as LC suggests?

Focussing my 35/2 is really easy and I can focus fast through the viewfinder.
I don't want to sacrifice too much of that...

It is not unless you are working at MFD (especially reds and neutral colors seem to be hard).. Otherwise, I find it easier than 2/35, because of the longer focus throw.

Vienna, Contax 35/1.4

Wonderful image but not impressive. An artful image that carry value for those who know the subject, but IQ nothing out of the ordinary, or below. It's very easy to do something sharper, more delightful and with better colors and more with e.g. a meager 17-40/4L. As well as with my countrymen Joakim's delightful images above.

But hey, I understand this is a Zeiss 1.4-thread which is a lens that I really want but I am expecting more than I can produce from my sub-priced L-lenses.

Sry to disturb the scratchback-frency, but I am looking for real arguments which I think I see in a few images in this thread, but to be honest it's just a minority which I could blame at great compositions and PP. Plz, can anyone catch the bait? :-)

If anything, her face would look twice as wide if this shot was made with 17-40L

Hey, it's been discussed many times. Some people love Zeiss 35/1.4, some see no difference. I certainly see a lot of difference, so I sold Canon 35L (which itself is light years ahead of 17-40L) and kept Contax.

Any lens can produce photos that looks bad when used wrong. Not all lenses can produce the stunning photos this lens can when used right.

I will not try to convince you that this is the lens for you. Maybe we will see each other one day and then you can try it yourself.

Hello wfrank, My intention was to capture the atmosphere in Vienna at that moment. Not to characterize this specific lens, nor to convince others to use the same equipment as I do.
The reason I use this lens is that I 'see' the world in 35mm FoV and I like fast lenses so I can take pictures without using a flash.
