Now THIS is the first photo I have seen of the new 35 that I am impressed with. The rendering is much more dramatic than the other shots posted. This is more like it! Thanks for posting it.
I shot 2 pictures more of this peony bush with different aperture settings. I wanted to be safe hitting the right focus point.
All pictures are hand held.
I promise these are the last pictures of this peony bush series.
Its interesting, the Peony Bush is very gently rendered at f/2 and it gets all über sharp at f/2.8. Seems like an interesting lens to play with if has these two sides to it. And its great to see something hard for a lens to blur like various stones is blurred graciously.
Edit: Just noticed the f/1.4 photo and flipped between the three varying apertures. There's a nice glow to the OoF area at f/1.4 and yet still looks nice and contrasty. If the lens is truly giving up a bit of Wide Open sharpness for a more balanced lens in regards to all the other stops, I think that would make an amazing multipurpose lens.
Photoe, this last one doesn't look to have haze at f1.4 in this web size shot. Is there any in the RAW at 100%? Do you notice more veiling haze (spherical aberation) at f1.4 with subjects which have a mix of RGB colors vs. subjects like this which are primarily green?
How much sharpening are you using for these shots?
1. There is some "blurring" when looking through the viewfinder, especially at close focussing distances. Goes away at medium to long distances.
2. Some haziness wide open and at close focussing distances. Certainly no show stopper though.
3. Colors are just gorgeous straight out of the camera. Very vibrant.
4. Not as sharp as 2/35 ZE wide open.. 2/35 images feel more 3D than this one. However, starting f/3.2 or so, it is incredibly sharp.
5. At close to medium focussing distances, there is a medium format kind of look.
6. Very heavy! Nicely balances on a 5D2.
7. Accurate focus wide open is non-trivial, especially at ~ MFD.
Now to the pictures.. All images are shot wide open, unless specified and no PP except RAW -> JPG conversion. Almost all images were sharpened at 35,0.9,10.
I'll post some more pictures and comments over the weekend.
