p.40 #1 · The official Zeiss 35/1.4 thread

Thanks teh_rebel I was just preempting a comment on the clouds from you

Wayne: Look at his maple tree example. The old 35/1.4 is the only lens that I've seen with that type of rendering. Lloyd also mentions that the rendering style of the new lens reminds him of a medium format lens - something that we've mentioned here. Overall from his samples the only thing that stands out as very different are the colors. They seem to be similar to the 35/2 - contrasty rather than the more subtle and subdued rendering of the old one.

Paul: What are you waiting for? Seriously, there are a grand total of three lenses that I would recommend without hesitation - the 100 MP, the 21/2.8 and the 35/1.4. In fact, I could probably limit myself to using just those three and not feel that I was missing out on much. Take any of those three away from me and I would be very unhappy.

Don't let the lack of lens hood stop you. I don't have one on mine and I have not had any problems with indirect light.

Hi all,
Am really keen on the C/Y 35 f1.4 for my Nikon d700. Would the Leitax kit work fully with this amazing lens?
Many thanks for any views.

I just viewed newer samples of Zeiss 35mm 1.4 ZE on DigiLloyd on subscription-based notes. The new lens seems to be sharper wide open than the old 35 1.4 that I used to have. However, the color just does not draw me in. It lacks the painter-like qualities of 1.4 and it's kind of "duller" than 35mm f2 ZE. So it's middle-of-the-road between old 1.4 and new 35mm f2 ZE to my eyes.

wait for the ZF mount to come out. While it can mount with the Leitax kit the C/Y mount 35 1.4 will only go to a certain distance and will never reach infinity

Interesting. How come you miss the Contax if the Rollei was an improvement?

It is improvement in sharpness and contrast but bokeh stopped down is too busy (a lot of criss-crossing lines). Initially I thought with lens like this I would be shooting wide open all the time but then realized that I need to stop down frequently or I'd miss the focus - photographing mostly a fast moving 2 years old subject

Maybe if we all start posting shots of benches, Paul will buy one.
