Where is the cheapest I can buy one of these?

With Bing CashBack I got mine on Ebay for about $225.

Doesn't anybody have the 8mm fisheye lens? I'm particularly interested to see its flare behaviour.

Opened my Rokinon from overstock today. Quite a nice lens, just having to learn to manual focus with the xti takes some getting used to. Anyone use a focusing screen or AF chip to assist? Here's one of my dog from this morning
iso 800 f1.4

Congrats, Jason, and it looks like you are doing not too badly without either! I use a EG-S screen myself in my 5D2, and have found that it made a huge difference. I don't think there are Canon focus screens for the Rebel series, (correct me if I am wrong) but there may be aftermarket options. Some use liveview as well... As for the 'blinkies', (AF confirm chip) I had tried one but ended up letting it go as I didn't really like it. With it, you are limited to the AF points only, and I found it made me lazy as well. There is something 'purer' IMO about having nothing between my subject and myself in my line of sight when manually focusing.

Glad you like it, Wayne! I love that second shot (after the Peace Lily?).

I'm glad you like it, but what the heck have I done to deserve those thanks? I'd better post some pics. Both are with 85/1.4 @ f/1.4 on D700.

Thanks Paul and Gary!

Makten, nice old car shot , love the lighting.
I still remember your B&W street picture with the old guy with walking cane.
That's when I first wanted to get the lens but I some how resisted. But then when Paul and Matt and others posted beautiful images with the Rokinon in these later threads, then I was sunk as it is quite a lens for its price.

Wayne, thanks for the props. Like you I was inspired by Makten & Cogitech, among others. I haven't been led astray by the crew here yet, and this lens in particular would be good value at twice the price.

Here are a few more...

And one from another Samyang, a 28/2.8 Macro which I got in C/Y mount for $29.99. (New/old in the box!)

No, but I suppose a AF confirm chip could be glued on if it were needed.

Go for it guys. Cheap beer was great....once upon a time. Even rode in a Covair once and thought that it was pretty comfortable.....quite a while ago.

So convince yourselves that low cost lenses give you high dollar images.
But for me, once you've tasted Zeiss....nothin' but nothin' is quite as nice.

Peace

I just received this fine Sam Yang lens and took a snap shot of another fine lens....

Never too late. Now you have the same problem as me though, Paul, both the Rokkor and Samyang 85's, which one to keep? Perhaps both?

I've recently bought a Zeiss, and to me the Samyang is still as good as it gets. Go ahead and fool yourself thinking it can't be good because of the price.

If you put the Samyang optics in a Zeiss lens barrel and asked the same price for the two lenses, I'd choose the Samyang. This is not about price. It's about performance.

Ha ha ha aha ha ha ah, you are smoking something good to be touting these lenses from discount lens maker Cosina so hardly. I like them, but don't discount Samyang!

I just take more time to shoot.....
Sometimes, I take 2 or 3 same shots until I get the right focus......
The last one was the result of 2 attempts ....
