I moved from a 30D to the 7D and, while my posted pics certainly don't show it (yet!), I know that it was a great move for me. Work with it a little more and see what happens.
Did you find (at least initially) that you had to tweak it a lot to get close to the 30D's quality - saturation, sharpness, levels, etc?

Before this I was not sure about your history but you had DSLR before.
Since you are not shooting in Green Box or CA modes you are probably on center point focus. Just in case you are on something else get out of that and go to center point.
Yeah, I changed the default AF setting to center point
Did you do the $5 serial number test yet?
No ..
If you have FW 1.0.9 or better take a few images of the serial number in live view, contrast detect (on tripod, etc). Live views focusing is pretty much perfect so it will show you what your images should look like. Live view uses a different method to focus because the mirror is locked up. AFM does not work here.
Oh .. I do have FW 1.0.9.
And yes I'd be glad to look at some of your raw images. It was a tough month for me but I'm glad I sent mine in.
What was wrong with your 7D? And how long did Canon take to fix it and send it back? Nice image of the owl, by the way.

I'm sorry, English is foreign language to me. Could you explain what "Distance to bill about 1 foot to 10mm. 10ft to 100mm." means ? It doesn't make sense.

My interpretation:
If your lens is a 10mm then place the camera 1 foot from the focusing target.
If your lens is 100mm use a 10 ft distance.
Hope I got that right.

No I didn't have to really tweak much at all, but I had to spend a lot of time understanding the AF, which I feel I do now. I also ended up using the "Faithful" color setting since the metering seems more accurate than my 30D; I used "Landscape" on my 30D to get vivid colors but don't need to enhance the colors on my 7D.

Not really. Very little.

Canon told me the AF assembly required an electrical adjustment. I had it back in 8 days. Many people who sent theirs back were told the same thing. All you have to tell Canon is you AF is all over the place. One time the focus is on, then it front focuses, then it back focuses.

I forgot to respond to the Live View part. LIke said Live View uses a different focusing system. It had problems with FW 1.0.7. FW 1.0.9 was the Live View fix. That was why I asked. Many people reported that live view focus is right on so it provides a good base to compare other tests to. This is why any AF microadjustment does not work in Live View.
It would be shame to give up until you have tried everything. I know it can be frustrating. Someone at Canon somewhere between engineering and the production dropped the ball and some units got out with improperly calibrated AF assemblies. I can't back that but I have been following this very closely and I'm basing it on reports from people who have sent theirs back.

Sorry about that. I realize that this thread was for posting images and I did wonder when someone would say something about the technical stuff. Just hate to see someone discouraged.

After listening to words of encouragement, I took the 7D out from the box again (I'd packed it up to ship it back). And changed the file size to 8 MP JPEG and mRAW. These are slightly sharpened in CS2. Not by any means technically sound or interesting subjects, but just to see how sharp the thing is or isn't.

Oh no, Zenon, that's not what I meant at all. I was referring to the fact that he was considering dumping his 7D so I was simply stating that I hope that he decides to keep it and that the photos we see from him in the future are indeed taken with the 7D that he decided to keep! Your posts are fine and have been very helpful.

Anil, those look like you're getting some pretty sharp pictures. I'm not sure what's wrong with your camera; it looks as though it's working well. Keep familiarizing yourself with it. I think that the 7D is one of those cameras that once everyone who has one learns how to use them properly, you'll begin to see a lot of pretty impressive pictures.

I think my 70-200 is mis-focusing on the 7D and needs to be MA'd real bad. The first 2 photos (the wheel and the truck) were taken with a 17-55mm f/2.8 and seem properly focused. The 70-200 is clearly not focused but again .. all of these were handheld. I gotta try the same on a tripod. Also, I chose to shoot in 8 Megapixel quality, and processed the JPEGs in Photoshop. Not the RAW in DPP. Maybe I'm doing DPP wrong - never used it before.

After reading your post several times that's what I thought too but I was not sure so I thought I would apologize anyway
