Some Black Headed gulls. "Zone" AF really works for BIFs in front of trees and whatnot, and the 7D's metering is excellent - these were in very bright sunlight, with thick snow underfoot.

All with the 7D and 100-400mm - Exif in the pics.

Converted in Cap One 5 - really happy with the detail and IQ.

Keith, that's a beautiful series! The last one in particular is my favorite. Great job on all of these!

Thanks Andy - I like 'em!

My 40D is OK for BIFs, but the 7D in "Zone" AF makes them almost too easy, even with the 100-400mm, which isn't the best BIF lens on the planet (although it's better than some would allow - and the 7D's AF does seem to give it more "snap").

I couldn't be happier with the camera, and the IQ is very satisfying too.

These files look much better big, incidentally. I don't usually print (I might if I got to shoot eagles, falcons and the like on a regular basis, but gulls?) but I had an A3 (11.7" x 16.5") print made of a version of the first shot, and it's gorgeous.

And the owner of Rebel here:

loves the framed print of this picture I made her for her birthday!

Both the race and the muso qualify for that description, I think.

I'm gonna guess you're pretty happy with your camera now, Socrate?

They're properly excellent!

Arh there be dragons in here

My first DIF's and my first dragons with the 7D, using the 100-400L for all these and all were manually focused. Next time I'll try the various AF modes and see if that improves the keeper rates. Still very happy with at least two of the shots.

Those are fantastic Whayne.

Thanks, Keith. Yep, I'm pretty happy now with my 7D. Not just for the more consistent AF but also for the lower noise at low ISO. All this didn't refrain me to get a Mk IV though

Thanks Michael. I've been aching to shoot dragons for ages. The nice thing is this was taken at work so I can have a go regularly.

Just fooling around. Here is a stacked shot of 10x 0.4 sec exposures, hand held, of Orion with a 7D @ ISO12800 with a Pentax SMC 50mm f/1.4 lens. The focus isn't really spot on, but the 8 fps is really useful in getting a good volume of unblurred images.

Whayne, those are awesome shots! I've tried shooting dragonflies with only occasional success; nothing like these though.

Socrate, obviously your camera works extremely well now. Those are excellent.

Vontom, regardless of whether or not the image is sharp, the fact that you can even consider taking a shot at ISO 12800 handheld and get a very respectable image is amazing, isn't it? There are so many possibilities for night shooting these days...cool shot! Thanks for sharing it.

Wow! The first at ISO 6400 looks very nice; good job with that one. The detail and texture that you captured in the hummer's wing is outstanding.
