pretty exciting camera, definitely will see more of these canons in the press ranks than the nikon equivalent during the winter games no doubt!

Yawn. I hate the 1D series cameras in general. Bleh. Bring on the new 1Ds...

The videos look excellent. But I'm very disappointed that its not a FF. Oh well, I'll have to stick with the 5D2.

I don't understand why more of the 7D improvements weren't incorporated:

-no iFCL metering
-no intelligent VF
-no ability to remap buttons
-no improvements in the VF - with what they've done on the 7D, couldn't they have improved the 1D?
-only 1500 shot battery life (same battery as 1D III)

Sure seems like a warmed over 1DIII, adding a new sensor and video.

Wow, nobody complaining yet that it does video. Where are all the people who said Canon would never put video into their pro cameras. Maybe they realized how much journalists are using 5d's to shoot video in the field.

Looks like a solid camera. As long as the autofocus system holds up I'd be interested. Also if the 12,800 iso is useable.

It is my firm belief that people who are against FF are only this way because they don't have the money, or don't want to spend the money, to buy longer glass. I blame canon for creating this group of whiney people. If you can afford a $4-5k camera, you shouldn't cry about $6k glass.

Nikon did it right with the FF + crop mode.

And if you whine about losing resolution with crop mode, well, do you really, really, really need 16MP of your kid playing baseball? Didn't think so. And I know pro's don't need 16MP to get published. You can do that with 8...or 4...

So boo on canon. FF or bust.

Cheers,
Thomas

Good decision. Mark 4 is a pro camera. Most of the people who fell for the 5D2 hysteria and the Full Frame hype would be over their heads with it.

On the Canon USA site:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=19584

Videos here: http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=3108&productID=349&articleTypeID=125

They really emphasize the autofocus improvements, so I'm hopeful they really made improvements! Time will tell.

I'm a bit underwhelmed from a feature stand point. Super excited to see the images though. Likely picking one of these up mid next year.

"Perhaps indicating the company's confidence, Canon is stating that noise levels in Raw data from the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV should show a noticeable improvement over those of the previous model, at equivalent sensitivity. Canon says they achieved this through of a number of design changes to the new CMOS imager."

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E1DMK4/E1DMK4A.HTM

That is pretty bold. 60% resolution increase and better noise levels at the RAW level?
