7d Vs 1dmkIII makes me laugh. just because the 7d is 'newer' all of a sudden it's ' better ' than a 1dmkIII!! it's like saying because the latest ford has a nicer cup holder it becomes more desirable than a mercedes gull wing.
there is not a single image I have seen from a 7d that suggests it's in the same hemisphere as a 1dmkIII, let alone the same ball park.
Can you point out exactly where someone stated that the 7D is better than the 1DMKIII?

Care to point us at any that prove the opposite is true? That the Mk III is in another league to the 7D?
I don't have a 7D, and I like the Mk III, so I have no axe to grind - but I'd be really interested to see your "proof".

Nevertheless, it seems clear that the 7D incorporates easily the lowest noise APS-C sensor yet available that delivers a high amount of detail even in higher ISO shots.
It seems that we'll never agree on the lowest noise part.
I'm betting that dpreview and DxO will confirm that the 7D noise is not the lowest - but then (some) people will say that the tests were not done correctly.
So, let's just agree to disagree here, as nothing rational seems to be helping this argument.

Good luck explaining this to some of the 5yr olds here. They dont get it. All they want to hear is how the new 7D will be the best camera. I guess it makes them feel better that they think they can now have a 1 series without paying for it.
I'm not threathened, I just answered a question for the OP and all the 7D advocates here had to chime in and get all defensive about my statement. I dont give a rip how many MP's that sensor has, it isnt resolving the same detail as the 1D3 because of its noisy sensor. All the detail it "could" resolve is lost due to in camera NR due to the extreme noise it produces without it.
And as far as betraying my response. I merley said the 1D3 examples others posted were good. And I dont need to see 100% crops from thse, I OWN ONE and know how good they are. I asked for 100% crops from 7D that matched, oh and guess what, still none. Its because there isnt any. Beleiev me, the amountof Fanoboys that run in this forum would post them if they had some that could match.
And I just responded to others posts that are directed towards me.

Imagine if they'd been taken with a Mk III - and then FlexNR'd!
Actually, I used that plugin in its free beta form, and got some useful information out of how to achieve better results with NR. The trick to effective NR is to 1)not try to eliminate all the grain 2) Not try to do everything in one shot or one pass.
The trick is to apply NR in stages, hitting something different every pass. For instance, my current NR workflow is a 3-pass process.
Obviously, depending on the subject, lighting condition, etc. YMMV. These cat shots I've been posting were obviously taken in the confines of my house with my 580EXII and was only meant to demonstrate 7D and high ISO performance in a finished photo. Keep in mind the cat takes a great portion of the frame, so it's easier to apply NR.

Um, excuse me, but I am not 5 years old, I am 7 years old and I take that as an insult. .
I agree that the 1DMKIII has higher quality pixels. Absolutely. The reason why I "traded down" to the 7D was because I wanted more MP's and the 7D does deliver FOR ME. (Oh, that and the imminent MKIV announcement...) Is it noisy? Not any noisier than the 1DMKIII if you resize it to equivalent resolution. I think the 1DMKIII has a slight edge, and I mean slight. The 5DMKII puts them both to shame though. .
Don't worry. Once the MKIV comes out, this will be a cold topic...

Totally ridiculous statement - have you seen the cup holders in the Mercedes??
Camera choice is obviously a subjective, personal judgement - but it's pretty amazing to think that Canon would release a camera two lines beneath it's flagship, that would outperform it. Happily the flagship is due for an upgrade too.

I don't need 100% crops of those high ISO cat shots to know that they would print perfectly at any reasonable size that I would want. Seriously.
Those are great. Can you provide some more detail on your NR workflow? Would really appreciate it!

A few post processed cropped 7D shots from last night during a late cold and wet evening in a parking lot. The 70-200 didn't have enough reach from the spectator area, so cropping was needed. The entire night was done at 6400 due to the lighting. In the end, the parents cannot tell the ones I did last year with the MKIII from the 7D, and really it is the clients' opinions that matter, not some self-induced form of OCD that many people seem to have.
Yes the MKIII is better than the 7D, but the gap has been lessened quite a bit. And what is extremely funny is that the next 1D that comes along will have quite a bit of the 7D in it, just better. Then maybe the bickering will stop.
