Of course he has. Why would anyone make a comment like that with just the knowledge they have from the internets & tv?

Just as an update, it seems that YES, samyang is releasing a 35/1.4 in 2010
not sure about a 1.2 canon version though.

Check out this interview for the original words, including indications of releasing an auto-aperture and CPU'd version of the 85mm for nikon in 2010!

These guys really are the best thing to happen in optics for years IMHO

Thanks, Empire. Wow they are such a small company. According to the interview, they do everything on their own, from designing to manufacturing the glass. Very, very impressive. I wish them success.

Good stuff? Been enjoying Dimmu Borgir quite a bit lately (as well as Rotting Christ, Greek band that's pretty awesome) here.

On-topic, very eagerly looking forward to seeing some shots from this lens whenever it materializes.

Aren't they Made in Korea? Where working & living conditions are the equal of rest of the Western World?

Note that much of the production of the big Japanese companies has moved to the Phillipines (Pentax), Vietnam (Pentax), Thailand (Nikon), China (Nikon and Canon) and other poor countries.

In fact, if you want to live in the big city there, an average US income might not be so comfortable.....
It's quite expensive there....

I'll be staying tuned to the Alt board when it is released for comparisons to the Nikkor 35/1.4. I love this forum

In the interview, it is stated that the 35mm will become available during the second half of 2010. For some reason, I thought it would be sooner. Oh well.

I have to say I thought I was missing something and finally got around to downloading some Gorgoroth.

I'm honestly bewildered. How is it possible to take that stuff seriously? Or, am I missing the point? Is it supposed to be funny in some way?

I must say Extol is much more tolerable. I might even say "not bad".

Sorry for OT, BTW.

I was highly impressed with what I've seen thus-far on the 85 f/1.4, and I plan to buy one soon for my 5D as a video lens (probably portraits too). If the 35 f/1.2 comes out and isn't real pricey I'll likely buy that too! Maybe even the 14 f/2.8 if they fix it.

best comment ever

With regards to the 14mm, they are re-designing it as we speak to improve it before releasing it rather than releasing a semi-dud. Not many lens companies that I know who would do that.

Post of the year.

You just havent heard the good stuff. Gorgoroth is a lot of things, but particularly good, they are not. There are FAR better extreme bands out there!

And since we managed to turn Samyang 35mm into metal discussion, I'll add a song too, not so extreme, but much better than any Gorgoroth:

It's an acquired taste. It is my little piece of Norway.

If it has anywhere the same cost to performance ratio as the 85/1.4, I will want one, even if it is only 1.4 rather than 1.2.

Well I know everyone is excited about this announcement, and I hate to put a damper on it, but I want to wait and see what the performance of this lens will be. The 85 f/1.4 does look to be a very good lens, but medium telephotos seem to be a lot easier to make than wide angle lenses (there are a lot of very good 85s and 90s out there, but fewer very good 35s or at least it seems that way to me). It wouldn't be shocking to me anyway if the the 35 doesn't have the same level of performance as the 85.
