Chris no I dont get it ... its not about the video I dont like , just the idea of the it on a pro camera , I know there is wifi in some cameras but they are not DSLR pro bodies as I know so far .

we can keep talking about this from here till Paris and it wont end , the idea here is to share what you think and not to say what it should be done cause no one is really listeining to you ,, its all marketing , companies wanna make money but I feel as a photographer I dont mind spending money on somthing right , I dont want to save my money and when its time to buy a camera all I will get is all in one camera and my saving was from the first place is a pro DSLR - just stills - not all in one camrea

alot of people wanna shoot movies with it so do it .. but why dont u buy a small camera for that it will give you a better shooting options as well as you atleast know how to hold it while you video shooting ....

I was loooking at the NEW H4D for example , I didnt see the VIDEO thing there ... and i was wondering how come such a master piece .. such a beauty ,,, such a perfection with no video and the most important part NO ONE COMPLAINS about why there is no video ... my god still talking about the video ,,, Im not trying or will convince anyone or so about the video thing I just dont see it right to mix multi functions together , special its two different professions , its like a doctor work part time in the morning and waiter at night !!!!

anyone got my point or see where Im going instead of I DONT GET THE POINT cause some of you guys like the video thing and cant wait to play with it for few months and they wil never touch it again .. its just the first time excitement thing time when you wait to get a new thing ...

Im really wondering whats the next respond to all that will be !!!!!!!!

The next response is to agree with you: you definitely don't get it.

First: Nikon already offers "Wifi" (actually, remote control and image transfer by either wired or wireless networking) for pro cameras. The current product is actually the second version, even. So pro cameras do have WiFi, you just don't know about it. Read more about the Nikon WT-4a Wireless Transmitter if you're curious or disbelieving.

Second: some of your arguments have no technical merit. You say people should buy a small camera for video because "it will give you better shooting options as well as you at least know how to hold it while you do video shooting". Huh? If I have a Coolpix with video, and a D3/D700/D3x with video, what could possibly make you think the Coolpix video will be better? And the part about knowing how to hold it is even stranger: as though photographers don't know how to hold a D3. You're not making sense.

Third: some of your arguments have no fact at all behind them. You don't know (and cannot possibly know) how many people are bitching to the manufacturer about the lack of video in the H4D, or whether people who are happy to see video in a DSLR will in fact use it consistently or not. Your statements may make you feel better, but they have no weight in a real argument.

And lastly, I'm glad you like the H4D so much. But I personally don't regard it as a masterpiece, beauty, or perfection. I like the frame rate, AF speed, lens selections, size, weight, flexibility, speed, and cost of my DSLR from Nikon, thanks. I have no use for a Hassy even if I had the money. You're comparing two entirely different markets and that also does not support your point.

You don't like video in a DSLR, fine... but don't try to sell us the idea that video is useless and only idiots who brag and boast and featurebate will want it. That dog won't hunt.

1.
Small camera's have limits on the lenses, depth of field, controls, quality. The D3s will be 1080, Nikkor lenses glore, and many new features like faster FPS which will be a welcome for the people it was INTENDED for.

2.
This goes back to what a camera is INTENDED for and what camera makers market too. Hasselblad is not marketing to the PJ/event folks. They make cameras for fashion and beauty photographers who need those megapixels. I would laugh if video made its way into the medium format cameras. Why would studio photographers EVER need those features? Another reason why I disliked everyone against the D3x. Its made for people who need the power and megapixels for their work. They can afford the price and was easily swayed by the power of the D3x.

3.
Yes some people buy the latest and the greatest and shoot their families with it. That is fine. Keeps Nikon going and the photographers are happy too! I am shooting stuff that is getting published with a D300/D300s. I take really nice images with what I have and I learn the tools. The D300s give me the ability to expand my portfolio in my field of study (photojournalism) by working with small clips and videos. My field is slowly changing to a video/multimedia driven field and I am on the upbeat of learning everything I can. I live and breathe photography, I am not doing this for a hobby. Any tool that can put me above my peers and make me look better will work for me.

Photographers have to constantly reinvent themselves and keep current if you want to make it. Of course what I am talking about is not related to hobbyists but professionals in NYC.

I am LOVING this video upgrade. Can't wait to see what is next for Nikon when the D4 series hits the shelves.

ROD .. I wasn't talking to you so you stay out of this with your thoughts , I mention that before if you read carfully ( Im not trying or will convince anyone or so about the video thing I just dont see it right to mix multi functions together) so thats mean Im just saying what I feel and what I see as a still photographers , thats all and when I said to get a real video camrea I didnt mean we have to go just for nikon ( coolpix ) just becuase you have nikon DSLR , so that mean if you wanna buy anything with video suppose to be nikon , Sony makes small camcorder fit the palm of your hand , im sure you know what Im talking about .

again im not trying to change anything or whatever , cause the cameras already out there , just a thought as still photographers why the video there .. I mean .. why don't we start just shooting video and forget about the still and the light technique and accessories goes with it .

when I said WFI i know there is WIFI , I think I've been photographer more than you do that accourding to how you talking to me about accessories, I know whats the accessories for cameras most , but I ment as WIFI build in like the cell phones or iPhone , thats mean Im trying to make the idea stupid of putting so many things in one device suppose only to do one job is STILLS , thats why they call it stills camera .

Chris Im sorry I didn't read what u said cause i feel bored from the first line and no point to go on with all the lenses and so on ,and about the D4 , believe me you are not the only one talking about ohh i cant wait the D4 and D6 and bla bla .. just go focus on your study as whatever you taking and get the experience needed from all point of view before talking about cameras , you may just be over excited cause you have $2500 and you cant wait to spend it over a nice camera is coming out soon ..

I bought most of the lenses and I sold them till I got the collection I really wanted after trying it all , and I was shooting Nikon since film till digital and I have H3D and I love it as well so doesn't mean cause I m talking about Hassy thats mean I don't like Nikon cause maybe I adore Nikon than you do cause You may like it cause it got whatever you need but I love it cause it give me the IQ and the performance I want .

Chris one more thing .. about the D3x its obvious like the sun in the middle of the sky that it will be expensive, so someone with a small business or have low budget to buy camera dont look way too up cause you could break your neck so look at your level or you can go higher if you see your self you can affored it , so no problem

Nikon D3x is for people have the money for it and people need this kind of IQ for their work , Im sure if you have this camera for free you wont even know how to use half of the features of the camera , so I don't see a point of you reminding everyone in the stats and everywhere that the D3x is expensive cause we all can see the price tag .

I got bored by reading your post as well. I can hardly understand it.

I am focusing on my study but I love technology and I am actually interested in the camera side of things and how everything works. I am not really over excited for buying a new camera, I have access to more camera equipment at my photo cage then you could ever imagine. I see no reason to buy anything more then I need right now as the cage is a resource that gives me whatever I need for any shoot possible.

If businesses do not have the budget for the camera, they might not need it at the moment and could get by without it. The people who are buying these cameras are either; hobbyists who want the best or professionals who need the features. I think the price is perfectly fine at where it is at right now.

And this goes back to the cage comment, I have already extensively used the D3x and the H3DII. We have both of them in stock at our cage. So, going back to I love technology, I enjoy learning the features it has and if I ever need those kind of megapixels for my work, I wouldn't hesitate to rent one for a day.

You know what's in store for us next year (fall), don't you?

D3xs / D700x

Just think - a D3x with a faster frame rate and (probably) HD Video. I won't use video, but 8 or 9 FPS on that camera (14 bit please) would be nice

That's probably about the same time the D700x will surface. Discontinue the D3x in favor of the D3xs, then you can bring out a D700x. That would make for a significant enough difference in specs for pros to justify the pro cam over the D700x - which probably wouldn't be the case now.

I'd also bet the D4 is announced fall of 2011 or so.

Chris sweet heart .. this is a PHOTOGRAPHER site not someone interested in teac. go buy T3 magazine there is what you need to know ... and if you read the head line its says somthing about new coming of Nikon D3s , somthing you dont even know of .. so if you intested to know about specific camera do some researches about a camera you like and if you see a head line about then you can go for it cause so far you are talking about somthing you dont know or you just wanna be member of a team like to waste time with some comments we dont really like to hear .

Cause so far with your back and forth answers seems you have time to just reply what I say and I dont you see you pointing a new point of it ,, just like question and answer .. so maybe you just drop it and look for somthing else ..

That would be pretty damn impressive on a D3xs, especially in 14-bit mode

If "s" will actually mean a D3 with the "keeping up with Canon - because we can" Video .... to me then the "S" will stand for ""S"omething else"

I dont want video because I have nothing against it ... but I want a no-nonsense approach to photography. I dont want "portrait" mode neither btw ... sorry about the heresy.

I have it in the 5D ... and what a kludge. Technology for technologies sake something akin to the idea of a cell phone and an mp3 player in the D3c later on. Ooops ... didn't mean to give any ideas to those who's photography would be taken to a higher level ... if only the cell phone was built in and they can upload to Grandma with no fuss.

On a discussion forum? You're kidding, right?

"They" generally just call it a camera.

As for photography, the very meaning of the word way back to the original Greek is "drawing with light" or "painting with light". Doesn't say anything about what kind of painting or drawing. So yes, this is a photography forum: and while most of us focus on single, static images, that's not an imposed limit. Besides, the instruments and tools of our art are just as valid as anything else as a topic of conversation; why would we have to go to another forum to talk about cameras and imaging devices?

I think that video is the future on "still" cams. No doubt about it. But perhaps they will do the right thing and change the design completely to accommodate better the twin features of traditional and "new" photographic capture.

As it is right now however I have found that personally the compromise is too much for the way this new technology is implemented and it takes away from my still shooting. Well, that may be too strong a way to put it ... perhaps its more accurate to say that I tend to like a minimalist approach and so I'd rather see the feature not in the next nikon cam. Not yet. And we do have to pay for every new engineering thing too.

Me ... I'd hope that the "s" means that Nikon has made the body more tailored. How about a way to hook it up to a computer to be able to customize it even more. I would love to make some menu items disappear from availability once they have been set up once. I would like to be able to customize the menus to my way. I'd love to be able to map out on a computer the use of any mode except "M" and "A" for example. Now that would be progress ... to minimize! Let the Canon camp do the beta testing for a few years on video and the electric shaver part. Just for a while more.

Man I love this forum. Guy-with-no-posts-and-no-website accusing guy-with-professional-website of being a tech junkie and not a photographer.

And is grammar, spelling and punctuation really out with the in crowd of today's teens? Or is someone typing replies on a crappy Motorola cell with autocomplete on?

Get lost. This forum is the Nikon-Mount SLR forum. We talk about cameras here. Cameras = technology. End of story.

Second, I would never touch a Canon. Sorry. They need to go back to basics of user interface before they will ever see me using one of their cameras.

Seriously, your posts have no input into this thread and the video debate going on. Please continue on with your wedding photography and being a professional photographer

Wow, I decided to check out this thread and it's another video discussion. Though I don't know how people can read Ramsey's threads, he hasn't discovered the new "TEAC" known as the English language and its associated grammar.
