Well if it's true and it comes out on the third of November, I would expect Nikon in all good taste to offer me a complimentary body as a birthday present. I would of course be gracious enough to review the camera.
I bought D3 this year and Im very happy with it , Im a pro photographer , weddings .. events , fashion and art , Im a PRO PHOTOGRAPHER .. why the hell do I need HD Video on my pro camera for , I could just go for the point and shoot one that can have 15MP for pic and HD for movies and thats all ,, But i have a small sony T900 I take it all the time with me if I like to shoot amovie in cafe or around when I walk or take photos if I dont want to talk my D3 , I really dont understand still why the HD thing for movies on a still camera and you are a pro photographers , whats next ? untill now i didnt hear H3D camera from Hesslblad did with their 50MP camera a video on it cause it will sounds dumb ,cause they make still cameras not videos , if you are a videographer so buy a Panasoic 300 or 500 Pro P2 cam they are the best for that but if you are a still photographer ,, you should focus on your gear as lenses and flashes I think .
I dont care about 100 Mega pix ( can't tell 10 dpi from 300 dpi ), print button ( I don't think it will work on my dot matrix printer ) or 1080 HD video ( this I might like if it works with my B&W Motorola TV ). If the D3S will save me money by giving me the option to perform my own colonoscopy without using a telephoto I would be more than happy to upgrade from my F3.
The buffer upgrade and video would add very little to the D3.
I have not noticed any improvement in my D3 since upgrading and the camera had to be sent back after a component failed soon afterwords.

Precisely... How could you improve the perfect camera?
As a working sports photographer/photojournalist, I can tell you that adding a larger buffer and video capabilities would be a huge improvement to the D3. So many people are anti video when it comes to DSLR's. In my experience, these same people either don't make their living with photography, or they make their living in a realm of photography that hasn't been invaded by video (yet). Wedding photographers, PJ's, sports photographers, etc. All of these people are going to need to do at least a little video in the future to remain competitive. It's just the way of the world. You either adapt or you lose your job.
So that being said, maybe a D3s won't be worth it to some current D3 owners. But I'd be willing to be if Nikon can bring full featured video capabilities into the D3 body, they'll certainly sell enough units for it to make sense.
I think they should save the HD video for the D700s or D700Xs.
I use my backup D90 for interviews and other short videos.
As far as the larger buffer goes, I still have buffer overruns at about 30-40 large/fine JPEGs. The camera is set up for 4fps, so it should not be overheating. But, the camera is stalling for several seconds.

Certainly no one is forcing you to purchase a camera with video in it. If you are indeed a pro photographer and disagree with video function in a pro-body simple don't purchase it.
Don't lose faith in these multi-billion dollar companies, they must be doing something right.
I don't really understand the anti-video sentiment. It's not like the addition of video capture comes at the expense of other features. There may in fact be spinoff benefits for still capture as the manufacturers get this sorted. There are number of features on my cameras that I never use (shutter priority, anyone?), but the fact they are there does not cause me to say "dang, I'll never buy a camera with that feature in it!"

Well said. Personally I can't remember the last time I used shutter priority, program mode, spot metering, a viewfinder curtain, a vertical grip, shot jpgs, or used the AE-L button. I'm certainly not going to complain that those features are there though.
I worry more about orientation. I thought the D300 had it right with the ISO button on the top left dial. The D3/D3x setup with ISO on the bottom rear, and BKT on the top left dial, seems a whole lot less useful to me at the moment. I change ISO all the time, but BKT (while nice to have at-hand) is not something to which I'd give that kind of priority placement.
The thing is, I figure that I can only guess what some part of the market prefers. Nikon has a whole lot better probability of getting an accurate perception of what most shooters in their target market will want, since they actually get some contact with 'em, which I don't. So I give Nikon the benefit of the doubt, and I assume they must know what they're doing, and then I give them my opinion just in case they care.

Aren't there custom functions to disable the undesirable modes?

it maybe one of those things they do becsue they can. I do not understand wanting HD video in a SLP but i guess there are some P&S folks who upgraded but loved that function and the So-Can-Nik-Tax corproation met the challenge.
