it was meant so that from all those AI/AI-S lenses i like, have and used last months three becoming useless and because there was laying lot moneys in them, they had to fly.
the attraction to older photographers was purely my feeling because nowaday everybody who can buy DSLR with 50 1.8 is a "pro" because he have shallow DOF. those days when you had film SLR it was so much effort that only those who really loved photography (from its purest definition) have been doing it. in my eyes those who started with film are in percentage better photogs and more focused on photo making then blubbering about cameras and technical details.
they will buy it because it is the "bar discussion with fellow photog over switch to color film" kind of upgrade. you know this kinda thing you had to try, have, discuss even when all your sold photos was done with natural light, and 50mm lens. up to now.

+1
Gear is gear. Everything has its advantages and disadvantages... always will. It's adapting to those 'limitations' and getting the shot(s) that matters.

I fully support that ideal, mainly because it's Sigourney Weaver and she's awesome.
I think there are two pancakes on the rabbit's head. Unfortunately the lighting is at a terrible angle and there is not enough fill. I'm guessing that was not produced with the super-duper new camera.
We've been down the MX route. Not happening. I think it's pretty obvious that Nikon, especially in the current economy, is not interested in niche markets. And MF is a very niche market. It would be one thing if a D3/D3x body (or an upcoming D4 body) and an MX body could be exactly the same except for the sensor and all Nikon had to do was plug in one sensor or the other. But that's not the case.
I also don't think Nikon will do a rangefinder. They're not interested in Leica's market. From the advent of the first Leica 35mm prototype in 1923 until 1998, the total number of Leica bodies sold was about the same that Nikon sold of just the D70 in about two years.
And if Nikon was going to put out a digital version of a vintage camera, it seems to me they would have put out a digital version of the Nikon F to celebrate its 50th birthday this past June. I don't even think there was a press release to mark the occasion. I really thought Nikon should have made a bigger deal about the 50th anniversary of the SLR.
I actually thought Nikon was going to release a small run of Nikon F (film) replicas for the 50th anniversary for sale in Japan only, like they did in 2005 for the SP or in 2000 for S3 and FM2n "Year of Dragon" or the F5 "50th Anniversary Edition" or the FM2/T "Year of Dog" in 1994.
I think Nikon will eventually put an APS-C sensor in a small camera, which will be their equivalent of the micro FT format. So I think it will wind up looking like a larger version of one of their P&S cameras. Probably won't be as nice looking as the Olympus EP-1 or the new Panasonic GF1 and most Nikon lenses are physically large (assuming it's an F-mount camera), but I can't see Nikon adopting the MFT format and coming out with a new lens line to support it.

If they don't, they risk missing out on what could be a huge growth market.

F mount? Don't think so unless you want the depth of the camera to be equivalent to a D300. I do believe that an APS compact is coming and I'm looking forward to it. dave

Calling bullsh!t on this.
Nerds are nerds are nerds. Starting on film has NOTHING to do with sitting around wasting time with pointless conversations.
In my eyes.

If it's not an F-mount, then it's either a fixed lens or a new lens line. And I don't think Nikon is going for a new lens line, so that already gives the camera a disadvantage as compared to a MFT, except the sensor is a bit larger. But let's say Nikon came out with some incredible, fast zoom for this new camera. So you'd have to balance the advantage of the larger sensor with the disadvantage of the fixed lens against the MFT smaller sensor with removable lenses. I'm not sure where I'd come down, but as of right now, if I needed a much smaller camera, I think I'd go with the GF-1 although I haven't actually tried one as yet.
If you designed a body without the prism, as MFT has done, and therefore made the body with less depth, would the F-mount lenses not focus properly?
Thanks for the link Jammy, my high school french teacher, with a sexy British accent looked just like Sigourney Weaver, I never missed a class and I don't speak a lick of french.

I hope it's an f1.2 15MM to 800MM AF lens that weighs under 2 pounds. VR is also required. Macro would be nice, but it's not a deal killer. $500 sounds like a pretty good price point. It also needs to be as sharp as the 14-24.
