The Canon EOS 7D + 15-85 IS combo looks very promising. I took some 300 images and some video footage on Sunday in Tokyo but no time to process yet. This image is a JPG straight from the camera, resized and slightly sharpened in PS. I've been shooting with EOS 1 cameras in the last several years and I'm insanely impressed with 7D now.

It's killing me waiting for some reviews on this one. I am not really in a hurry to buy as I want others to try and test it first but I am VERY curious.

Like I said in the other thread,
how is the wide angle performance? Tele end is always good in Canon zooms, but the wide end tends to fare poorly and produce CA.
If you could provide some wide angle samples and user experience on that aspect, that would be great.

Based on this image I pre-ordered this lens this morning from One Call... I just feel that this lens is going to be in the IQ class of the 17-55.... will let you know when it ships.

yup.

wide & also wide open aperature with people & non-static objects. that is very important for a lens like this that is quite overpriced for what it is (lets be honest about it canon is out of control with these ef-s superzooms).

Well the EF-S 17-55mm certainly does not disappoint in any of the areas you mention. I have nothing to go on at this point except for some samples and the one above, but I think the 15-85mm is going to be a fine lens. As far as price... pay the freight or refuse delivery...:-)

yup it's just that the $1100 17-55 is focal length limited on the wide end (and long end) and the price of this lens is out of whack for what you get. I mean if it were 15-85/4 ef-s then it would be more desirable at $800 than f/5.6.

sorry if this is redundant but does anyone the exact MIN.APERATURE at each FOCAL LENGTH for this lens?

15 > ? f/3.5
? @ f/?
? - 85mm f/5.6

I can't stand it any longer! I'm seeing it all over the place!

Sorry Glen, and you're not the only one doing it, but you've written it twice in this thread: "APERATURE."

It's APERTURE. A-per-chur, not a-per-rat-chur.

I like the 7D. It stands a very good chance to be a great companion to my 1Ds3.
But I'm also very impressed with the new 15-85 IS lens.
Here is a shot at ISO 3200.

I pre-ordered this lens after I saw your earler post of the store. This leaf image is beautiful.

Good on you, John.
It's a very handy light and nice quality lens.
I use most of the L lenses on my 1Ds3, this lens has a lot of appeal on the 7D.
I really like it on the 7D.

I have to say, that it is a little disturbing to think people find single tele-end shots from a wide angle zoom lens proof enough to purchase the lens... :/

Well it doesn't disturb me so why should it bother you. I can be one of those "early adopters" and provide you reason to buy or not buy. Someone has to do it....

I am most probably going to be one of the early adopters of the lens (I have it on preorder). People should understand that the performance of a wide angle zoom lens can not be based on a single web-sized, tele-end sample image. Images demonstrating the 15-35mm focal lengths with 100% crops (with not post processing applied) would for example be much more informative. When I get the lens, I will try to provide information, possibly a test against other wideangle zooms, like the Canon 18-200.

Plus, we have all returned lenses that didn't work out. No big deal, that is why quality stores allow returns. It is better to evaluate something yourself than rely on internet comments.

I tend to think this lens will be nice.

Got to love 7D's ability to take high ISO shots with ease. Shot with the new kit lens 15-85 IS of course.
This image was at ISO3200. Processed in LR and then in PS with NIK's DFine.
