Hmmm, was only charged $169.95 though... Just looked at bank statement...

Did you notice the statement at Adorama?

I was looking through the VF with a lens mounted. My images look great also, that was my point--through the VF is NOT sharp. I mentioned black spots as what this post is NOT about.

I was the one who asked about small black dust specks in the viewfinder. Just curious if anyone else had seen them on their copies. I've had a couple since disappear so I imagine they are up around the focusing screen. When powered on the viewfinder is quite clear and certainly bright enough.

Watch out for J & R...
They did a bait and switch on me.

When I ordered it Tuesday, they said it was in stock.
Two hours later it was out of stock online.

I waited until today to call about the order.
They now say its on back order.
What BS. This is why I try not to use J & R.

Last time I ordered something they held it until I called them.

Amazon is soooo much better. I wish they had it in stock.

So now I have all the accessories but no camera

c'est le vie..

Sorry to hear about your experience! I've ordered a few things from J&R and other than a required phone call to confirm who I was on my first order, everything's gone quite smoothly. I suspect they were just over sold and got a bit ahead of themselves. I don't think it's a classic "bait & switch" kinda game they're playing.

Good luck!

Grips were expected to be shipped on the first... my order says BG-E7.... Were talking about a company here who DEALS with this stuff, Im pretty sure they got it right... When I ordered the grip online it didn't say that, it said something about pre-order or something along those lines..

If they screwed up, oh well, they can send me another one later. Having the Camera in hand is the important thing and I can tell you, this thing ROCKS... The VF is just simply amazing... LOVE how the points come up !!!

I'll be shooting some volleyball with it tomorrow, so that will be the true test for me. Just been playing around the house with it so far and getting used to the setup.

It would be great to see some of those volleyball images. I'm anxious to see how the AF works for volleyball, and it most likely will also be a good test of high-ISO image quality in a situation that typically is pretty difficult.

Sigh - lovely camera, but it is certainly going for a premium here in NZ! It clocks in at USD$2280 (NZD$3190) at the current exchange rate. To put that in context - it is about NZD$1200 premium over the 50D which is going for around NZD$2000.

Would love to buy it, but not prepared to pay that much of a premium just cause we live in the arse end of the world (with some fantasic landscapes mind you)

It is too bad that Canon and other related companies seem to jack up their prices in other countries for their product. I understand the economics involved based on the exchange rate but their should be a way to obtain goods at reasonable prices.

New Zealand is one place I plan on visiting before I die and its natural resources beg to be photographed.

The NZ price is lower than the EU price. Almost 150EUR better in NZ.

If you plan to hang large glass off the front, I'd get the grip. This will be the frist camera I'll be getting a grip for. It's one reason I prefer shooting with my 1D II, due to the integrated grip.

Back to IQ of 7D.

Have you guys seen Romy's (liquidstone) impressions about 7D (beta)?

http://www.naturescapes.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=162802&start=40

Apart from BIF issue, I am wondering what it is about this 200-400 ISO range noise.

I hope that you do not mind me linking it here, Romy.

No, I did not. I had a good excuse (leaving for a three week trip today) not to take my pre-order and wait a bit to make up my mind.

I went to NZ in 2006 and will be going back in one month for 3 weeks. It's awesome for photography. Heading to Mt Cook and the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers.

I just got back from Christchurch a couple weeks ago. I reckon Winter and Spring is the perfect time to go there. Enjoy your trip mate, I don't know about Franz Josef but Fox glacier is awesome. Do the helicopter ride if it's not too expensive.

I'm goin back there after I get my TSE17.

From what I have seen posted, the noise is not a problem for me. Current software does a good job correcting noise and can only get better. The noise exhibited in the 200-400 range is very fine, nothing like we had to deal with a few years ago.

My concern is with focus, software has yet to fix an OOF shot. If the AI servo can come close to my 1DmkII, I'll buy the 7D. I want a lighter weight spare camera to pair with the MkII but I'm not going to pay $1700 for bells and whistles if it won't focus better than a 40D for half the money.

Compared to the 40D, what kind of difference is there with noise in the 200-400 ISO range. I wouldn't care if I only printed but I also put up a lot of images on the net which need to look clean at 1600px and 1200px. Hows ISO 200 to 400 compared to the 40D's with images at 1200-1600px?

Past ISO 250 on the 40D was so-so in low light. If properly exposed ISO 400 was still clean on the 40D

Thanks,
Sam
