Haha..I just tried it, got a heart attack for a second (all my posts went missing), then I "unhid" myself...it's all ok now :-). I am curious by nature...too.
Just got a chance to handle the camera and shoot a few test images. Not enough to evaluate image quality yet, but I wanted to share my initial impressions of the physical package... favorable. A few things stand out:
1) The viewfinder is far and away the best Canon has ever put into a small-format SLR I think. The image is big a bright, really leaps above the 50D. Without having a chance to compare side by side, I'd say it is at least as good as the 1D3 viewfinder, maybe better. The area AF array is very similar in feel to that in the 1-series cameras, as the AF points light up only when active, giving a nice clean view. All that, coupled with use of the same viewfinder eyepiece as the 1-series, makes this camera feel a lot like a "baby 1D3".
2) The rear LCD is even brighter, clearer and more easily viewed in bright conditions than that on the 5D2. It's nice to see Canon continuing to improve this.
3) Heft, feel, overall construction quality: definitely solid. The salesman I discussed this with offered his opinion that it "feels like a D300". Having owned a pair of those, I'd have to agree. This camera blurs the line between "pro" and "prosumer" more than any previous non 1-series Canon body I think.
4) I like the position of the new on/off switch, which is good, as it is likely we'll see on future models.
So overall, a good first impression. No chance to test focus yet, or look at images carefully though... More anon.

I actually think that the viewfinder of 7D is at least as good as the one of 5D mkII, if not better. I checked the camera that was preordered for me. I did not buy it after all (mostly because I am leaving for a three week trip to Europe this week but also because I am still contemplating getting another camera).

What "other camera" could possibly be better than the 7D?!?

An interesting chart that was posted on POTN. It's been updated in the last couple of days to reflect the 7D. Viewfinder size, in square mm, is slightly bigger than the 1D3!
would like some real world pics also..
example an indoor shot in the evening livingroom
take a series of shots with a prime lens at f8 (trust me)
on a tripod start at ASA 100-400-800-1600-3200-6400 straight out of camera no PP
other than conversion of raw in DPP
a cat would work cmon throw us a bone

In case anybody is interested, J&R shows the 7D as in-stock right now...
I have the 7D ordered through J&R ... called them today for an order status and they said they expected them on Oct 9th. I hope the in stock status is correct. Maybe it will ship today or tomorrow.

I called them this afternoon and they said they had 107 in-stock. I ordered one.
Digitalbug, I don't have quite what you are looking for but I did take a just-for-kicks photo of Totoro staring into the glowing lcd of my laptop. What can I say, I'm a geek girl lol. This was a 20 second exposure, RAW converted in DPP to jpg, ISO 400, SOOC with no sharpening or NR added. 7D and 35 f2. @f9. The only light in the room was from the comptuer's lcd and the candle.

I better start reading that manual thoroughly in advance, just ordered 1 from J&R, woohooo !!! Yes, I eat my words about not buying new camera bodies, lol.
Who wants my 1dmk2 now ?
