While I don't expect the images of the 7d to be quite as good as the 5DmkII, I sure do hope the AF is better. The only part of the 5DmkII that ticks me off is the outer AF points which I think are only on par with the 20D if that, especially using AI Servo.

My local camera shop, Norman Camera in Kalamazoo has 60 7D bodies arriving Monday (they are already shipped from Canon). 54 of them have already been paid for as of Thursday through this morning. The Canon training person was at the store yesterday and she confirmed also that they had shipped the order (and they tracked the shipment for delivery on Monday).

Yeah, I've had a look John - but I was interested in more of the Exif/shooting details than just ISO.

I'm funny that way!

His shots look nice, but he says when he opened them in DPP they looked bad and it took a lot of Photoshop to get them where we see them now. In his words he says they did not look anything like the finished images we are seeing. I don't think we can draw any conclusions from them after all the Photoshop work and the small display size.

That's not what he said. He said the preview in DPP looked differently, once converted they were fine...

He indicated a complete distaste for DPP and wished his Capture 4 Pro had RAW support for the 7D RAW. He used CS3 after the DPP conversion. I understand the lack of EXIF and lack of RAW but I really have no real concerns at this point... the images look excellent which means the 7D captured the subject well...

I like what I'm seeing so far. Simon, the photographer with the race shots, said that he is pleased with the AF performance, but he also said it's too early to tell if it is as good as his 1-series (don't know which one he has).

The images at POTN look quite exceptional. He obviously is not a fan of DPP as are some here and C1 does do a very good job with Canon images as I found with the 5D mkII.
Sure sounds like there will be a lot of 7D AF posts here with all the variables that are available to use. It's going to take some practice to find out what combination of CFs and AF settings fit for different situations.

As I wrote over on the forum where these shots came up, maybe the writeups by Chuck Westphal on the 1D Mk.III autofocus setups for different situations can be utilized as a starting point for the 7D... Maybe he even will produce a setup guide for the 7D :-)

I'm seeing quite a bit of chroma noise in the above ISO3200 and ISO6400 samples, even at web size... about 1-2 stops behind what I get with the MkIII. I guess that's the cost of the higher MP and 1.6x crop. Still better than any other 1.5x or 1.6x crop cameras out there.
