Thinking of getting a 7D for a remote video. Wondering if it can be triggered with a PW, like you can with the still frames? Anybody have any insight? Thanks, Rick

Go to Canon's website looks like you need a firmware update,
you will find out in there the instructions to how check if your camera has the latest firmware,
if youre not very sharp with computers, call canon custumer service.

here is the link; http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=19356

I switched from Nikon D90 to Canon 7D anf I am very happy with it,
I don't have the isue you have, or at least not yet.

I know the 7D can use a wireless remote for picture taking, not sure if that would work for video. Good question.

Rick. I know it would need the iPhone but DSL Remote has a software package that does allow remote control of the camera through the iPhone and a laptop. OnOneSoftware: http://www.ononesoftware.com/detail.php?prodLine_id=38

The Canon wireless remotes work fine and are cheap.

Most likely this is not possible. 7D video recording is started by the start/stop button on the back of the camera. Even when in video mode the PW would probably just trigger a still image capture.

No Nose Prints! No Nose Prints!
Heh! When they moved the buttons from the bottom to the side it moved the display over enough to dodge the nose.

Its embarrassing on a shoot when someone says "Lemme see, lemme see" and pointing the display over the reflection shows the blob! I was even carrying a microfiber hankie just for this because it bothered me but today I noticed this is no longer an issue.

I even tried adjusting my form to avoid it but that was not happening.

Other than that I'm still shooting and looking and so far what sticks out compared to my 50D is the higher in focus keeper rate.

The manual select spot FP is pretty fantastic.
The manual select single spot is great.

The manual select AF point expansion works well but BOY when it misses, it misses good. I'm not using it in AI-Servo yet so if something behind the subject snags one of those expansion points its all over.
I'm thinking this is best used in an AI-Servo application mode. Am I correct?

For moving subjects you will want to use AI-Servo.

Yes, I agree, but I ponder if the AF single point with expansion should be used primarily in AI Servo mode.

Yes, expansion is generally assumed to be used while in servo because it is generally assumed you will be photographing a moving subject which may be difficult to track with just one point and no expansion.

If you subject is static, it is better to do single point or spot AF in One Shot, usually.

Did you guys know these can be had for $1526.95 shipped from an authorized Canon dealer via eBay? They're brand new with US warranties, best deal I've seen thus far. I bet they're split from a kit, but I sure don't mind at that price.

This may help you right-eye dominants, but no joy for us left-eye shooters.

RC-1 has two modes. You can take a still image in mode 1 and start/stop video in mode 2. This is more than likely

Hello, I just got my from the above mentioned eBay seller. It did come in a box that had a lens before, but other than that everything looks in order.

Haven't tested it yet.

Zenon Char, I saw your football pictures from a couple of weeks ago. I am currently wrestling with whether or not to keep a 7D or Mark IV. (I have both in hand but no opportunity at the moment to check performance in late afternoon or just after sunset light.) I have seen a lot of wonderful bird pics. But my interest/need is in prep field sports and probably not under the lights (as I don't think even the Mark IV will get me what I need.) I am trying to determine if the focus performance as well as IQ will be sufficient on the 7D. I have take a few images (road cyclists riding down my street, a coyote in the fields behind our house, etc.) But these are in daylight. Highest ISO was 1600. And to be honest there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference. If I know the Mark IV would give me clean images at 25,600 I would go for that as I could do night games at a local stadium. But I don't think it quite gets there. So if I can't do that and must rely on daylight anyway then will the 7D do the trick for action/sports? What was your experience with football? Have you ever used a 1-series camera and if so do you sense a big difference?

(I am going to post this question on other FM forums as well.)

Snap! Nice job! That's the best deal I've heard of. Have you played with the video much? I remember reading something about the edge of the frame (only in 720p) having jagged edges, and was curious if others have noticed.
