If anybody wants to see more of this set, check out the webalbum here: http://pix.ie/hask/album/365239
Every shot is uploaded as large as possible, some are pretty heavy crops though.
The camera tracks so much better than my 30D here, there's a night and day difference. The 7D finally gives me the shots I wanted to make
Here's a landscape photo, 10mm @ f13 (click for larger sizes):

Actually, it's primarily the light and the lens in those images - but they're also an excellent example of what the the 7D can do in capable hands, the point being that the 7D used properly is indeed capable of images some "clever" individuals on here are adamant would be all but impossible.
.
actually they don't say anything much about the 7D at all
Conrad Tan wrote: Hello everyone! Been lurking around here and just thought I'd contribute and post some 7D + 500mm combo shots. I just plunked down some scratch for a new 500mm after borrowing Anthony Whitmore's for a weekend. Wow what a combo!
Now it's off to the photography forums. I promised myself I'd stay out of the gear forums after I bought it. Too depressing
Yep, the 7D is a friggen turd. I've surprised anybody manages to squeeze a recognizable image out of that thing. Oh wait, they were taking pictures of the back of their lens cap....
hi
happy new year everyone
I am disappointed with my new 7D. My images are inconsistently sharp and mainly soft. I have checked all my settings and used it on different Canon L glass. The main problem is occuring in AI servo mode. While the images on the LCD look sharp, when opened in Lightroom or Digital professional the images are soft. My images with the same lenses using my 5D mark 11, 1D mark 3, and 5D are fine.
Anyone have same problem. I shoot using single focus point and have tried the other combos as well.
@ eidelmen, what firmware yours running?
@Thom Briggs, your firmware when you get it?
Mine will arrive tomorrow out of Costco and I'll report.
Coming from a 50D, I just want better AF, weather sealing and the video is needed in my current application. The 8fps and all the other enhancements will be great also.
If the noise is the same or better than the 50D so be it.
My tracking info has it coming out of ONTARIO, CA, US.

Alright everyone, don't get excited now, Conrad is KNOWN for his excellent bird images, so it's no surprise that these are GREAT! Let's not all get our hopes up that our own 7D's will create such beauty, remember, it's the PHOTOGRAPHER, not the camera!
Alright folks, chill out, it was meant more as a tongue in cheek kind of remark, trying to lighten the mood around here. Guess that failed miserably, but
HAPPY SHOOTING WITH THE 7D nonetheless!

I'm scratching my head a bit though, about how some of the images I took yesterday look. The light was pretty unpleasant - that awful grey Winter light that turns everything into the colour of lead - and some of the files (at only 800 ISO) are just too noisy.
Keith, was Auto Lighting Optimizer turned on? It has a tendency to make the midtones a lot lighter. Since this is (in-camera) post-processing it will increase noise.
I turned ALO off, since the manual says that it can also reduce the effect of your exposure compensation settings. One can always turn it back on in DPP when shooting RAW.

Hi
I have firmware 1.1.0, and it came with that firmware.
If I recall...(I kinda forgot already)...mine came with the same firmware. I wanted to say 1.1.1.0 but I'm probably wrong, and it's probably 1.1.0.
I took ONE photo with it, as the batteries weren't very charged, and I don't wanna mess with it tonight...but....
I threw on my 24-70, focused and clicked. I HONESTLY forgot to check the settings!!
The results were very good. It was set to Auto ISO, which gave me 3200. I shot it at about 52mm, 1/40th. Yes, there was noise, but it looked VERY nice. No mazing. NoisewarePro made it disappear.
The RAW file size was 28mb. Does that sound about right?
I will do some more testing this weekend...but from ONE shot, I'd say I'm very pleased!

Hi Gijs,
I don't process in DPP, so the ALO setting is "invisible".
I've concluded that the noise was entirely down to underexposure of the images - other files from the same day at the same ISO are fine.
I've also had to (reluctantly) conclude that Bibble 5 - my favourite converter - tends to result in more noise for a given ISO than other converters as far as the 7D is concerned.
