Why not just wait for Canon rather than wasting your time guessing about something over which you have no control and in which your opinion is totally irrelevant (only what Canon actually does/did counts). This is probably one of the few times that looking at porn is probably a better use of your time.
Ah, I see the sourpusses have come out of the woodwork. It's all just for fun.
I expected this type of alignment originally, but what has me wondering with the "5 groups" mentioned in the alleged release. I'm thinking that there will be a group in the center, as well as a north, south, east and west group. Not sure the alignment, but I disagree that it is not important. Since there are no actual assist points, the proximity of the points to one another is a key to how well the ai servo will perform.
hmm, I guess the n/s/e/w groups could be flat, but I would expect them to have height and width
There actually aren't many options for the layout of the AF point. There always has to be a odd number in the central row so 3, 5, 7, 9 and 3 is too few and 9 too many if you have 19 pts. I think it is what George has said, and the only other options are

This place feels like the waiting room for an international maternity ward. It's been fun to read the thread, though, and I may just be curious enough to stay up & wait for the announcement. So here's a dumb Newbie question - where does one need to be tuned into in order to see the announcement when it comes out? I don't want to miss sleep for no reason & spend valuable time doing searches on the Internet. Heck, at the rate this thread is going, the 7D would be obsolete by the time I found the stupid site that announces it. Should I just watch this thread? Please let me know so I don't get some sort of anxiety attack here.

Isn't it 9:00am Swedish local time, so it must still be 5-6 hours away.
Guys, that's just a local unveiling in Sweden. As far back as I can remember, Canon has always released the info online at midnight Eastern Time (U.S.).

I currently have 6 tabs open in my Mozilla browser and I'm configuring an auto-refresh algorithm with automated text messaging and email alerts as well as an Emergency Broadcast Message on my TV.
