FWIW skibum I agree with what you're saying, reply to Robb saying "it's a 30D with a fantastic sensor" and you'll probably come to an agreement - anyone arguing otherwise is deluding themselves....hell of a sensor though

and yet they did call 7D, dual-digic IV, 18MP, 8FPS, 3" LCD, electronic level and reveal date all correctly before other leaks....

I don't get why non 5D1 owners are so ridiculously offensive about the 5D....
Seriously, there's many on these very forums that seem to feel that it is their duty to berate the 5-Series in general, and sometimes slam those that own and like the 5D and 5D2. Not saying you're doing that, but when people slam others for their conscious buying decisions as if those people have some authority to dictate what others should do with their own money, I can understand the defensiveness.
The 5-series is a great camera. It has its shortcomings as all cameras do, and they're well-known. ...Show more →
I have a 5D2 myself. But fact is the fps, shutter, mirror feel closer to a rebel than to a 50D. I don't see what is so crazy about saying that. And I sold my 50D so I'm not saying I like the 50D or a Rebel better. Just that the 5 series are pretty close to the cheap FF that people always say they want and are, in a practical if not physical body housing stance, more like FF Rebels than FF 50Ds (aside from teh AF which is better than rebel).

If I was Canon I would have been flooding the market with 7D "leaks" and mis-information in an attempt to mask any information that escapes about a 1DIV
maybe they are using 7D as an AF testbed to make sure it works before daring to announce 1D4??

Oh yes...those high end XXXD series......;-)
What looks low end to you? It's big, it's metal, it doesn't have tiny plasticky buttons like a 'rebel' series, just a lot of menu buttons hinting at a lot of nice additional features. This is the first time for years I've been genuinely excited about a new Canon launch, unless 18MP has totally ruined the high ISO I'll never need to buy another crop camera again.
Stick an FF sensor in it and I'm set for life
The rear UI has small cheapy buttons that could possibly be surrounded by plastic?
Not to mention the purported poster shows no on-board flash but I see gaps in the product photo that allows for a flash.
I'm a bit biased though what I really want to see is a 1D3 replacement not "yet another 1.6x crop body". This makes this the 4th 1.6x crop body in the Canon product line? Can the economy accomodate yet another (now expensive) crop body?
Canon rep: Here, we are including the lens hood together with your lens purchase.
Typical consumer: What is that thing? Can I swap that for a memory card?
Canon rep: Here, we are including this silver ring so that your grand uncle would go wow when you whip this thing out.
Typical consumer: Wow thanks, I could use some of that.
