FWIW skibum I agree with what you're saying, reply to Robb saying "it's a 30D with a fantastic sensor" and you'll probably come to an agreement - anyone arguing otherwise is deluding themselves....hell of a sensor though

It does look to have an IR receiver port in the grip, just like the Rebel series. Curious.

The 5DMkII also supports the IR remote.

teh fact they call it L and not 50 means it is a gimmick (all the same still useful if you shoot jpg or want to see a proper histogram)

Nail on the head, RAW shooters are better off applying another +1 stop EC and doing it later, L is for the JPEG brigade, same as H and HTP.

and yet they did call 7D, dual-digic IV, 18MP, 8FPS, 3" LCD, electronic level and reveal date all correctly before other leaks....

The EF-S lenses have that silver 'this is a crappy lens' ring on them that Canon claims 'adds a hint of luxury'.

I don't get why non 5D1 owners are so ridiculously offensive about the 5D....

Seriously, there's many on these very forums that seem to feel that it is their duty to berate the 5-Series in general, and sometimes slam those that own and like the 5D and 5D2. Not saying you're doing that, but when people slam others for their conscious buying decisions as if those people have some authority to dictate what others should do with their own money, I can understand the defensiveness.

The 5-series is a great camera. It has its shortcomings as all cameras do, and they're

I have a 5D2 myself. But fact is the fps, shutter, mirror feel closer to a rebel than to a 50D. I don't see what is so crazy about saying that. And I sold my 50D so I'm not saying I like the 50D or a Rebel better. Just that the 5 series are pretty close to the cheap FF that people always say they want and are, in a practical if not physical body housing stance, more like FF Rebels than FF 50Ds (aside from teh AF which is better than rebel).

Thanks! I had somehow missed that.

maybe they are using 7D as an AF testbed to make sure it works before daring to announce 1D4??

Uuummm...

I've seen a couple more translations, both of which indicate face detection AF.

That should please some folk, right?

Wonder if it can recognise bird faces too?

I've suggested that possibility a couple o' times myself - makes sense, and is the Canon way...

on the luxury part. I forgot which Canon literature that it is on.

I think the silver ring means cheap, but not necessarily crappy, though in the film era lots of them are.

Oh yes...those high end XXXD series......;-)

What looks low end to you? It's big, it's metal, it doesn't have tiny plasticky buttons like a 'rebel' series, just a lot of menu buttons hinting at a lot of nice additional features. This is the first time for years I've been genuinely excited about a new Canon launch, unless 18MP has totally ruined the high ISO I'll never need to buy another crop camera again.

Stick an FF sensor in it and I'm set for life

The rear UI has small cheapy buttons that could possibly be surrounded by plastic?

Not to mention the purported poster shows no on-board flash but I see gaps in the product photo that allows for a flash.

Other than that the poster doesnt match body

Also the poster doesnt have small print at he bottom which I find weird.

Then again i could just be nitpicking.

If I were Canon I'd put a doggie smile shutter, after all there are a lot more people who take pictures of their dog than bird shooters.

Maybe they should try including a lens hood as a "Hint of luxury" instead of adding crappy silver rings to their lenses!

I'm a bit biased though what I really want to see is a 1D3 replacement not "yet another 1.6x crop body". This makes this the 4th 1.6x crop body in the Canon product line? Can the economy accomodate yet another (now expensive) crop body?

What ever happened to the "M fn" button? The new pics don't seem to show the button that was shown in the "Leaked" top plate photo.

Canon rep: Here, we are including the lens hood together with your lens purchase.
Typical consumer: What is that thing? Can I swap that for a memory card?

Canon rep: Here, we are including this silver ring so that your grand uncle would go wow when you whip this thing out.
Typical consumer: Wow thanks, I could use some of that.

In the non poster picture, it looks like it' still there to me. it's to the right of the shutter button but on level behind the shutter button.
