canon should let you select the options you want on the new 7D!
1. you get to choose what sensor you want
2 how many pixels you want
3. what autofocus
4. fps rate
5. high iso noise sensitivity vs low iso DR
6. size of the camera (anythign from rebel to 1d)
7. choose PRICE!
if canon can do this they will be #1 for a while, until people get their new camera in and realize they still cant take a good picture with it and will switch to nikon

The 7d will NOT, in any possible way, be aps-h. Canon plans to eliminate that form factor, so it will either be FF or APS-C (and thus ef-s compatible). As mentioned by jrscls, if it is slated to sell for the same price as the 5dm2 then it cannot be a full frame with better AF and faster frame rate - even with a 12mp sensor. Most likely case based on what has been leaked, is that it will be an APS-C with popup flash and probably better AF than the 50d but NOT 1d AF. APS-C for the 5D2 price? I would for sure pass, and am sure many others would as well. I really wouldn't care what AF they put in that cam then- as on the sensor specs alone it would have to compete with the D300s, which is far cheaper and already has pro AF.

Not if they want to sell any more 5D II's that they have already produced... and heck, it hasn't even been a year since it was in stores- that's ridiculous for a camera manufacturer to do.

Ridiculous yes, but they did come out with the 1D MK2N after ~18 months with not to many big upgrades. Its been 12 months and it wouldnt be that big a change. They could jack the price back to $2999 and they would fly off the shelves for 2+ more years.
Simple solution to the AF issue. The EOS 3 AF was used up until 2007 and I'm sure it's been well and truly paid off by now. Why can't this AF be used in a FF prosumer camera and the 1 series develop their current AF separately, widening the gap in performance. The EOS 3 AF still overall trounces the 50D/5D II AF, except maybe in low light.
Heck, take a 5D, update it thoroughly to digic IV/V, hi res screen etc, 6fps, 1D AF (single processor), dual cards, no video, and sell it for $2.2K and call it a 7D. That's D700 competitor. I would have this as my main everyday camera and eventually grab a used 1Ds III or 5D II for landscape work, although even the 5D is plenty most of the time for this.

Yes, there would be a lot of demand for that camera. It's what I had in mind for a 5D replacement before the 5D2 was announced. (I think video is de rigueur now though).
I love the 5D2, but I'm the first to admit that Canon does not really have a full-frame camera that is tailor-made for action photography. The 1DsIII is certainly responsive enough, but it is compromised by high cost and by more resolution than is generally wanted or needed for this type of work.
If past practice is any guide, a '7D' model will slot in *below* the 5D2. If this is the mythical compact FF camera with "pro" AF and a higher framerate, then something will have to give, likely resolution. A 12-16Mp body with these specs would be super, I think, but it may all be wishful thinking.
More likely, the 7D (if it exists) is just a cheaper 'entry level' FF model, and the 60D (if it exists) is a just a 50D with video, and we'll still be waiting for the 3D. That'll set off the whining!

Nobody's going to pay more than $2K for a 1.6x camera. Maybe not even more than $1800.
The BB price makes sense only for 1.3x or FF.
But a FF camera with the same price as the 5DII does not make sense and neither does continuing the 1.3x format.
But then again not upgrading the AF on the 5DII did not make any sense either, so at the end who knows what makes sense to Canon.

Have you not heard of:
1. inter-changeable back?
2. same as above
3. can be integrated into the inter-changeable back or the lens
4. on the add on grip or what we used to call motor drive
5. like the D3x or D700 and better sensitivity & DR
6. F4s, 5D or xxD series size
7. $2k ++ accessories $$
+8. out of camera picture quality without additional processing like Nikon and better
Oh! where's my inter-changeable view finder that can look up, down, left and right plus 100%. Easy on cleaning the mirror box too when removed.
