The sad part is that when the 5D was released it appeared that Canon would be able to accomplish just that in a short amount of time. Unfortunately they decided to go the opposite route and make it less attainable for the masses.

i laugh at anyone who believes this site. go back and look at the 5d II rumors. they were pretty far off, even though they were from good sources.
I am taking this to help me in my old age keep track. I want to buy a 50D now but who knows if there is a 60 coming soon maybe I should wait. But it is Aug now and if memory serves me they usually release new camera's in Sept so this seems very soon to happen and no work except here

The 'masses' don't even know what full-frame means. Canon and Nikon would have to alter their marketing strategy to educate 'the masses' about full-frame dslr's, then they'd have to spend a few years convincing 'the masses' that full-frame is the new megapixel. Then, and only then would 'the masses' jump on a no-frills FF dslr. I have to believe 'the masses' don't even buy dslr's.

i suppose i should define what i mean by 'masses'. i'm referring (mainly) to a group of individuals, much larger than the population of the usa (see below), who are either very aware of dslr technology, curious about advancement in dslr technology, or/(and) are very easy to inform about it.
"then they'd have to spend a few years convincing 'the masses' that full-frame is the new megapixel."
or send a memo, which translates to a few minutes in the morning bestbuy/b&h/adorama/ritz pep meeting. "hey guys. got a memo. we're pushing FF now, now that the prices are just a couple hundred more than the best crop body. if anyone asks, they're 'better.'"

according to professional trend watchers IDC, dslr sales were:
106 million units in 2006,
131 million units in 2007,
146 million units in 2008, and will be
160 million projected units in 2012.
again, these as of yet potential 400 million dslr users are the lion's share of my "masses."
but even with the current dslr owners aside, anyone capable of going into a photo store and being "educated" in a couple minutes on the benefits of a dslr can be told that FF IQ is better than crop IQ, just as simply as they were previously told that 15 MPs is better than 12. a memo, a morning staff meeting, instantaneous global adserve banners, and the gears of progress change in a new york minute.

The 50D already has a better screen!
Right- which is why I don't believe a 60d is coming in august (the 1dm4 is). They've just standardized on 15mp, the screen on the 50d is brand new (and now becoming the standard), and it is (IMHO) highly unlikely that they are going to upgrade the AF to "pro" standards. All that leaves is video, which is hardly a reason to come out with a new camera when the 50d has only been on shelves for 10 months.
My hunch is that the 1d4 will be announced the end of the month, with 18mp APS-H, video, and the new 920kp screen. In february they'll put 18mp in an APS-C 60d with video, and then the rebels will begin coming out with 18mp mid to late next year.
You guys really need to quit reading canonrumors; that site is predominantly wish lists and guesses. A week or two before the launch they start getting good info, but the rest of the time it is somebody's fantasy that just sets you up for disappointment.
