Not sure weight matters your leg pushes it up as you squat down and it can pop out. I like the idea but having used a similar system that did happen.

Again, pretty hard for that to happen if the holster is on your hip, to the side. What similar system were you using?

let me explain it. weight is mass. when i feel this mass against me i become aware of it. which at least for me because i know i have it there i generally take a look at it and or put my had on it to prevent it from moving while crouching to a position i may not like.

Like I said up above, it was for a cell phone. It clicked in and to unlock you had to rotate 90 then lift up. What I was saying was sometimes when I got in and out of a car, or bent down to pick something up it would turn on its own. Then as it pushed up from my leg it would pop out. It was something I had to be aware of.

SJMS you don't need to belittle the point I under stand weight is mass. I simply stated it is not full proof. It takes two steps to unlock the rapid strap push in on the clip and lift for the mass to hit the ground too.

I've posted this before but here goes again.

If any of you have doubts about the BR hook system this will fix your problems

On the weekend I was using the newer setup and after a shoot I walked out of the theatre and the new fastener and strap dropped to the ground. I regularly check for tightness to make sure the rubber washer is squished in the tripod socket. I was carrying my D3 and 200 f2 at the time. Thank god I was holding it from the D3 at the time and nothing dropped. I was holding it this way because of all of the negative feedback I have seen. I have the connector double clamped for safety and never thought the new fastener with the rubber would come loose and I do check it regularly. Must have been the movements during my 1 hour shoot that disengaged it... beware.. I like the idea but I can't keep worrying about this thing falling off.

that would be of course relevent to any components that are screwed together that are designed to be removable. it's the equivelent to checking the lock screw on a gitzo tripod plate that all of a sudden everyone is having issue with.

i can say with the clip i am using this should not happen because i would notice the camera rotation because it shouldn't. i set it to take a specific directional position to lay. and of course the safety lanyard

I already took your advice and ordered the clamp a week ago. Now I need to follow this up with the safety lanyard like yours. I would recommend others to do the same.

Thanks sjms!

The same thing nearly happened to me yesterday with my 1Ds II and RRS L-Bracket, except mine didn't unscrew all the way. And it was just from light usage--although I was testing some long lenses, and mounting and unmounting a number of lenses.

I'm thinking that the ridge on the RRS L-plate doesn't have enough of a flat surface for the rubber washer to make contact and provide enough friction to prevent the connector from unscrewing from the L-bracket's tripod mount. The surface of the RRS L-bracket is also a lot "slicker" than the bottom of the camera, so that doesn't help.

In any case, it looks like I'll have to remove the L-bracket when using the R-Strap, unless other safety measures are taken--like the ones suggested on this thread.

I would definitely go with the sjms type setup, if it works, including the rope landyard. I did not have the RRS L plate attached to my D3 at the time, so the Black Rapid was attached on the D3 ridged bottom, which as you say is not smooth, but somehow it still managed somehow to come off.

As I was walking it just fell off, thank the lord it wasn't my gear.

I am paronoid now, so sjms's suggestion is where I am headed now, because when's it's in use, I do like the setup.

I use the new fastener but the old connectr with the tube for now until everything gets settled. I plan on getting the dual harness for weddings eventually, but only after I know that there are no issues.

I used the new connector (locking carabiner) with my previous manfrotto RC2 tripod plate D-ring over the past week without difficulty. I did plenty of hiking in the Canyonlands and Arches NPs and everything felt safe and secure.

BlackRapid finally responded to my second email, and they are sending me a FIXED CR2. No explanation as to why I got the email a month ago, and why they didn't already send me a fixed one. Oh well--at least it's now on its way.

I am thinking of getting this strap after reading this article :
http://www.timothyarmes.com/blog/2009/02/a-rapid-r-strap-an-l-bracket-and-a-vertical-grip-the-holy-grail-of-camera-confort/

and then I saw this thread. Hmm..... I am thinking of replacing the faulty connector with a rock climber's biner like this :
http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302690819&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442625505&bmUID=1254015508772

and connect to my L bracket with a key chain loop like in the original article above.
Any comments? Would it work?

picked one up 2 weeks ago, I live right by them so went in and took a look. They have put a pin in the pivot point to keep it from ever backing out. No problem with it now.

So here is my DIY R-Strap for less than $20

Make a loop with a regular utility strap ($1.50).
http://www.campingsurvival.com/stron1inutst.html

Hook up a aluminum biner ($2) Thread a key chain split ring through the hole of the RRS L-bracket of my 5D MKII and viola, a DIY R-Strap that is secure.
http://www.timothyarmes.com/blog/2009/02/a-rapid-r-strap-an-l-bracket-and-a-vertical-grip-the-holy-grail-of-camera-confort/

For comfort, thread the strap through the shoulder pad of my old camera strap or for real comfort, spend $12 on a Planet Waves Gel Guitar Strap Shoulder Pad.
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Planet-Waves-Gel-Guitar-Strap-Shoulder-Pad-104510458-i1171516.gc

My gear will never fall off this setup. This is my plan, will let you know how it goes.
