If you've purchased the new BlackRapid strap then please be sure to check that the screw that holds the "connecter2" in place does not come loose. It appears that the ones with the problem come apart fairly easily while others claim they cannot get it to budge no matter how hard they try. I had my Mark II N hit the floor hard at a wedding this weekend. It was my first time using the strap and it came apart after only 90 minutes of usage. Again... this effects the NEW BlackRapid strap... it comes apart at the pivot point.

I have 2 RS-4 strap. One with the new and one with the old connector. This sounds scary. can you please give us more details on which part it failed. Is it the fastner (new smaller one) that came off the tripod mount or this connector broke? This new connector looks lot safer than the old one, so I really want to know more. Thanks.

I've been using the old style for over a year now, haven't had a problem with it.... the new one doesn't look like the best for holding weight.

Good grief, can they get it right at some point?

I replaced my hook with this hook from this keychain, I didn't use the keychain much. But I really like it on the Black Rapid with the new stainless loop.

Here is a photo that was posted on a different board from someone that it happened to as well. Actually, one of his straps came apart so easily that he didn't even have a camera attached to the clasp when it came undone. He just got home from a shoot and noticed the ConnectR-2 was missing completely. The strap that was holding his camera was just barely hanging on...

I don't understand their policy. First, they announced a new ConnectR2 because of failure of the first version, then they let us wait for one year, and now this.

I think I'd only trust my Upstrap.

OK, I watched mine and there's definitely NO SCREW!!!! It's a one piece hook like FastenR1, but with a lock and anodized, not black (see above).

well thats it for me. i admit when i'm wrong. and here it seems i was wrong. i just put mine on a visegrip but it isn't moving a millimeter. i wished the image above that photoeye posted was better as i can't tell if there is a crosspoint or slot at the top as it seems there might be on the screw. mine does not have one at all.

well though this is not an answer to the issue i have done a minor work around. 3mm climbing cord (200lb test). in a loop around the strap material and the carabiner itself as a safety. i will run with this in mine for a few jobs i must do do. it is long enough to allow for a single 360 rotation for now. THIS IS NOT AN ANSWER THIS ISSUE. i'm going to give mine a beating in use.

@Mario: My ConnectR-2 looks exactly like that. There is really no way to tell if it's a screw until it comes apart. I inspected mine thoroughly when I got it because of BR's track record. It looked safe to me. People who have bought the new straps, for the most part, cannot get this thing to come apart. But for some, it comes apart so easily that it will unscrew itself just by hanging from your shoulder (with or without a camera attached). If you have one of these new units, my advice would be to test it's strength before putting a camera on it. Most likely, the ones coming apart have missed a finishing step of some sort: such as applying a glue to the inside to prevent it from unscrewing.

@sjms: I like that fix. I may test that out....

put a vise grip on the head and give it some torque you'll know.

remember its a safety until proven that yours is not at issue.

no crosspoint or slot (blank head) and i could see it was threaded. red loctite and 24hrs it will never come out again. but i will say again this is not the answer to the QC issue they have here and evidently it was improperly assembled.
