I'm new to the people forum. Stopped over from the wedding/digital pro areas because of a rant thread about this forum.

For those that want to read the thread of shame, here it is:

Made me laugh and you've got to say some of them are right about a few things round here, even if they come across as sour-faced wimps

And so far it has been mostly good natured.

Hi Paul,

I hope so. I'll come back again and maybe be brave enough to post something of my own. I'm just getting into people photography now and have started lurking this forum to see what you guys are doing over here.

Wow, now people "own" different forums?

If people are buying your work, then great sell it but don't get pissed when you put your stuff online for different people to look at and they say they don't like it.

I really don't see any of that kind of thing going on Robert. I'm pretty sure Jeremy was 90% kidding around and Sergio took it in stride too.

Absolutely. Some try to spread themselves over almost all the site. It makes others want to throw in the towel.

geeee...

everyone has their own tastes. grow up.

to me, these arguments have about as much validity as one photographer crying to another one saying, hey man, he stole your shot, or that style is totally yours man (said in a half-baked [movie] tone). as if you are the only person that thought of or came up with a/the shot!

personal taste. all what it boils down too.

i think the shots are cool. i personally don't 'get' #3, but whatever... maybe my mind doesn't work abstractly (new word invention)

bottom line. sergio. the kid (compliment) has some SERIOUS talent. and what i really like about this set, thinking outside the box. that is HUGE imho.

Read the first few replies, but I get the jist. I guess it's quite the love-in over there.

I'm 43 yrs old. I don't like some of these at all, but I really like some of them (2, 4, 6, and 8). I'd be thrilled to have pictures like this of my kids. They are edgy and unique -- I think much more interesting than the "guy standing on the railroad tracks" or the "girl standing in front of a tree" that I see so often. Nice job.

I posted in that thread too.. I think its because in general there is a higher proportion of pros... hard for advanced amateurs and weekend hobbyists to do weddings, so the proportion of pros is higher. Thus the work is generally of higher quality.

FWIW when Sergio uses the style of photos for weddings that he used for this senior, it's spot on.. makes more sense to me. I wonder if he still loathes senior sessions as much as he did a few months ago, when lamenting there wasn't enough wedding work for his liking.

That shot should shut some people up. That reminds me of something Doisneau would have shot in Paris way back when(using color instead of b/w obviously). And that my friend, is the biggest compliment I can give you.

Yep, it's like a virtual swingers party in there. I read the whole thread and was lucky to get back here without the need of a shower

Apparently, we're all rude, juvenile amateurs who couldn't take a decent photograph between any of us. Oh well, I'll give back that £2000 I got paid yesterday and cancel my shoot in Saudi Arabia next week

Guess it gives you more time to hang out with all the hundreds of famous music execs you know and work on more 'People With Fork' photographs?

I was kidding. Except for you, who should definitely stay the hell out as we actually kid around in that forum - I don't think you could handle it.

Girl/guy on tracks - the ASK for that. Really. And often.
(please excuse me illustrating a point)
And they buy them. And the first one here has brought in a few other senior because they like it that much.
Perhaps if I showed shots like Serg's I get the same reaction. From what he says he does.

Interesting what you see whan you put things together differently. I DO have a style! Clients make comments at times, but here are 4 shots at 4 locations of 3 clients (i have other clients almost the same as the last one there). All are shot wtih the 70-200 at 200/2.8 more or less and are full length and lit rather flatly. We have a lot of cloudy days, yeah, that's it.

I don't hang out with execs, groupies however are another matter...

The bloke with a fork is a celebrity chef. The bloke in a suit is probably the next Prime Minister of the UK, most of the rest are snaps...
