I hope you won't beat up a Nikon Guy - I swear these are flower shots.
Ram, stick around, observe the lens selection all these flowers have been shot with. Perhaps some day we'll get you to switch to the best lens system in the world.
(Hopefully, also some day, our system will get cameras that focus good )
PetKal, Hrow and Dancam, Thanks for the kind words. I have used the Nifty Fifty with 25mm extension, Lensbaby, 105mm Micro bare and with 25mm extension and also perhaps the 200mm Micro as well. Abstracts was and is the main focus this year.
Some very fine abstracts and other regular florals in this thread also.
And Petkal, dont tell anyone, I am ogling the 5DMkII and the 135mm F/2 L Lens - should be deadly for the work I do

Sounds very good, Ram.
Although, I'd say 180L would serve you well too. I'd be hard pressed to say which lens is sharper or has better IQ, however, it's clear which one has the magnification.

It does but its just a macro lens much like the Sigma, Nikon and Tammy. 135 F/2 with Tubes would be really really nice for abstracts. 135 F/2 will bring oomph with that color splash in the fore and background with shallow depth of field.

"Just" a macro lens ? Well, Ram, I tell ya, 180L is very special....more than "just a macro". However, rather than talk about it, let me show you a selection of images I got this morning within a time span of about 45 minutes, using 180L on a puny 8 Mp camera. No flash, no pods of any sort, all handheld.
I hope you can sense a bit of diversity of application here......and I haven't really got into candids, portraits, city scenes, architectural elements, etc, etc...
Petkal, Sorry for the slight delay in responding to you . I did not mean to short sell the 180L Macro. Its one of the best-est out there, there is no question about it. My point was that 200 F/4 from Nikon is also every bit as good as the 180L (may be splitting hairs at the end of the day if at all). And then there is some aperture drop at close to 1:1 magnification as well.
What will really carry the day for me with Canon are the affordable fast lenses - which when used with some amount of extension tubes will help make killer abstract shots.

Optically, the 200 f/4 and 180L may well be very much alike. Some day when Nikon updates their lens with an ultrasonic focusing motor and an electromagnetically operated aperture diaphragm, then the overall performance of those two lenses will probably be very similar too.
