p.11 #1 · Mark III-Recall again ?

I wonder if they will also extend the warranty again?
I wouldn't expect it or even demand it, but it would be a nice touch.

Don't you hear it ? MarkIII will have lifetime warranty by using all the MarkIII users as R&D oparators.

Lets get serious ! There is no need to say for any reason something like that as by the last recall they actually admit a problem that whenever you will findit in your camera they will repair it for free and the Canon aproved problems so far are

1. AF subMirror (only for a number of S/Ns)
2. Error 99 (all)
3. AF side points (all)

So there is nothing to worry for all of us relax and wait for the people that already had send the camera in and get it back with some tests.

The only problem for panic rush will be when RobG make the well known test and proves that Canon has finally got the problem totaly solved with the last AF fix. Then all the people will want to get repaired.... and Canon should recall all MarkIII back without exceptions

I registered my 1DsMkIII for the fix yesterday but now the page on the CPN site seems to have been removed.

I'm going to call them to find out what's going on.

Well....here's the story:

I just got off the phone with Canon Tech in the UK who advised me to send my 1Ds3 in for 'calibration'. More interestingly, I asked if this latest update would really finally fix the long standing 1D3 AF issue and he replied that it would make the 1D3 AF at least as good as the 1D2(n).

If that's true, WOW. I could just be in the market for a 1D3.

Time will tell if it turns out to be true or not.

Pierre.

I hope that (...would make the 1D3 AF at least as good as the 1D2(n)...) turns out to be true for you Pierre.

Well, that'll be a downgrade then. When working there is a noticeable difference between the 1DMKIII and the 1DMKIIn ~ the MKIIn has it own foibles .. [now] comparatively POOR low light AF, and the it's tracking abilities are also impinged a bit.

Main difference in the 1DMKIIn is consistency ~ you get to know when it is going to fail ~~ my, I'll speak for my 1DMKIII, it is just plain unreliable in almost anything it does ~ give it the lowest light and toughest AF tasks and it show you it has the ability to just shrug off these difficulties and deliver razor sharp images .. mine just does not do it all the time, just no reliability or consistency that I can get used to what the camera will do next.

However, having had a taste of what the 1DMKIII can do, the 1DMKIIn now seems positively pedestrian. I hope they are not just 'slowing it down' or dumbing it down like some are saying.

My own take on the 1D2N is that it is the most consistent AF tracking Canon 1D series body to date, and certainly my favourite for sports work!
Sure in low light the N hunted a bit but at that time it was the dogs do da's!!

So does this mean that if you have an MKIII (regardless of no dot, blue dot, or yellow dot) that it should be sent in for the latest service notification??

I don't own an MKIII, but of course I FINALLY have the money saved for one. I'm just curious and I'm sorry if I missed this info somewhere.

Thanks,
Chiara

I hope they are talking consistency only.

Thanks,
Matt.

It is amazing how much interest and emotion threads on this camera still generate.

This was certainly the impression I got from the technician.

Yeah, just like sharks when they get the scent of blood As soon as any Mark III issues are reported, they all start coming out of the woodwork.

Regardless if you think your camera is OK I think there's the same issue with second hand value as it was over the previous AF fix - a buyer would ask you if the camera has all upgrades and will most likely want to see some proof of this fix too.

So... I got different advice when I called: If your camera shows any symptoms related to these service notices (AF or mirror errors) then send it in. If it does NOT show any symptoms, don't. My 1DMK3 does not have either of these problems, at least at the moment, so I am not sending it in. There is no expiration date on the service notices, so if problems appear in the future you are still covered.

Clearly, regardless of the issues that exist for this camera, there is a perception that it might be damaged goods and this lowers the resale value.
