Of course there are no issues mounting this lens on a 5D.
So no clearance issues like the Leica 19mm? That's good. From the pics I've see of the lens, I couldn't tell how far it would stick into the mirror box.
It sounds like Voigtlanders are more expensive in Japan. So the US price may be lower than the conversion price of 55K JPY.
Hmmmm two out of three so far.....
US companies more aggressively lower their prices and profit margins than anyone in Japan would ever consider. THERE CANNOT BE ISSUES ON THE 5D. This is an f-mount lens. If it clears the Nikon it will have no problem with the 5D. Maybe you haven't shot a lot of Nikkors on your EOS Digital, but its very simple.
Right, Its more short and stout, with the standard Nikon 52mm filter thread. That is a feat in itself though. I'd love to buy one of these, but I just don't NEED this lens at all.
Lets see how polite I can stay here...admittedly a challenge for me under the circumstances.
I'm sure 5D/II owners can only hope your 'confidence' proves justified -- especially since lenses from manufacturers with longer registration distances than Nikon's (46.5mm) that clear EoS full-frame 1 series models (EoS registration distance = 44.0mm) with no issues WILL foul 5D/II mirrors (again it varies by 5D due to variances in 5D mirror boxes and/or mirror placement).
It all depends on the design of the lens (which I haven't explored in detail with the CV 20 as I couldn't care - I judge based on results) and the 5D in question.
Then there are Leica lenses (registration distance = 47.0mm) that will easily clear FF 1 series (and most 5D) mirrors but will foul Nikon FF mirrors and thus can't be converted for use on same as a result.
Anyway, I made my bit. As a CV fan, I'm looking fwd to seeing what this can deliver - regardless of what it clears (I'm sure everything) or doesn't.
Now back to your regular scheduled programming.

False logic. Mirror clearance on the 5D's is totally dependent on two things. Whether or not the mount spec specifies enough clearance (there's a LOT more to a mount spec than just a bayonet) and whether or not the manufacturer pushes the edges of the spec hard. Clearing the mirror on a Nikon does not determine sufficient clearance on a Canon body which is NOT built to Nikon specs.
Register is mostly irrelevant (apart from being one of the limiting factors for mirror size), it's the mirror clearance part of the spec that matters. This is an issue because the EF spec requires a lot of mirror clearance and Canon uses large mirrors in their bodies (a change from FD mount which requires small mirrors and FD bodies often have issues with viewfinder vignetting with longer lenses).
That said, AI and later spec lenses should not have issues on a 5D. Earlier pre-AI lenses may have issues though as Nikon used to use element protection fins which will cause mirror interference in some cases.
pre-AI lenses with element protection fins may cause mirror issues as well. AI and later lenses should be safe.
The element protection fins are on AIS lenses as well, but that is not a problem with elements clearing the mirror. You clip them off and they are fine. For all the talk about mirror cutting and Rokkors in here I cannot believe anyone is worried about an f-mount lens working on their 5D.

AI-S lenses may have short ridges the same length as the max aperture index post, not the larger fins which can cause issues with the mirror on 5D's. Note that 5D's are known to have issues with mirror clearance on all sorts of lenses which have ample clearance on other Canon's, hence the worry.
The only common alt mount with NO clearance issues is OM.

I finally got mine this last week. It is smaller, as mentioned in height it is shorter than the OM 21/3.5 but just a bit larger in diameter.
Wow, looks good! I love the diffraction patterns from the sun in the last shot! It is an EF mount correct? Not an adapted Nikon or Pentax? If possible, could post a shot of it mounted on the body to get an idea of scale.
ok, well congrats on the purchase it looks like its going to be fun to use. I thought it was the EF version though. It looks like nobody has received the EF mount SL's yet.
